The only people that think FSD is good are Tesla fanboys and people over invested in the stock. Its awful and in my usage, got in way more "near accidents" in a month than i have in my entire lifetime otherwise. Its not safer than a human by any stretch of the imagination

The FSD with vision only is mid at best. I have used it in trial and it has a lot of flaws. Getting on a long curve for highway car speeds up to 65mph when it should be at 15-25 as signs are posted. Being able to see curbs is another struggle since it has no radar or ultrasonic sensors. Long reddit post on the Teslas hitting curbs in FSD mode.

It is more stressful having the car in FSD then just driving the car. I personally would like just improved Driver + with more roads mapped.

For the $8-$12k Tesla owners paid for Full Self Driving, what % would like their money back. Didn't buy a Tesla, not buying/wanted their limited. tech. It's a pipe dream that has killed multiple drivers.

I did not buy it but subscribed to the $99 per month and will not be renewing. I suspect Most are fan boys so they won’t tell the truth but probably 80% don’t want it. What about the people that purchased it and their car is not compatible. lol.

as much hate as Tesla gets for the deaths I do believe it’s been proven that drivers were at fault in all cases or they tried to manipulate compliance.

I doubt it's Rivian, but there could be a business deal to be had. Tesla's probably interested in licensing to companies selling millions of cars, not tens-of-thousands.

Looking at a hypothetical business model, Rivian charges the same $100/mo that Tesla does for those that want to buy it. Half goes to Tesla, half goes to Rivian.

There's ballpark 100k R1's on the road. If 5% of R1 drivers take the offer, that's only $3M in revenue for each company. It's probably not worth the effort. Although maybe it would be worth Rivian's time if they could walk away with the technology to replace/improve Driver+ without having to spend scarce capital on the program.

Part of Rivian's challenge is that they're trying to do too many things. I think they need to focus on doing a smaller number of things better. I don't know if this is the option I'd choose, but I wouldn't be upset if it's the direction they go.

No thanks Tesla AP and FSD - which are terrible and disengage too often.

I dislike Driver+ also (for the same disengagement reasons) and think Rivian should license out HDA or BlueCruise.
BlueCruise is great. I commute in my Mach e and it makes the commute so much better. Commuting in the R1S would not be as enjoyable because of the ADAS deficits

I wouldn't say that Driver+ is way behind others. Here are the results from Out of Spec Hogback Test (ADAS testing circuit):

Rivian actually scored the best in the "Driving" column. The main thing I'd like to see is expanded availability.
eh I don’t really like their scoring though. Also, if you watch the video for the Mach E, for instance, at the end they talk about how the new version of BlueCruise is probably actually the best ADAS they’ve tested yet, but it doesn’t fully reflect in the scores.

Totally agree. Never a believer until the free trial, then wow, I will never buy a vehicle without it. Most haters on this forum have never tried it. Future is here, and getting better, but many would still rather ride horse carriages
I just drive myself. Until I can full on nap in the driver's seat, I don't care how much the vehicle can do for me.

"The future" is going to consist of people who aren't good drivers if they never have to do it. Then asking them to take over in dangerous situations is going to result in more accidents.

This Tesla FSD believer tried, and found out. https://electrek.co/2024/04/23/tesla-driver-arrested-homicide-running-over-motorcyclist-autopilot/

We know it works, sometimes. The issue is when it doesn't (the unpredictable scenario the fans ignore).

Here is a more detailed article.
https://www.heraldnet.com/news/tesla-driver-on-autopilot-caused-fatal-highway-522-crash-police-say/

He was driving a 2022 Model S. I wonder if that one had the radar activated or not.
Foolish man knew he was behind a motorcycle and activated Autopilot/FSD anyway.

Now he'll need to sell his Tesla and probably a lot more to pay for a lawyer and settle the lawsuit.
Best outcome he can pray for is avoiding jail time.

I would rather Rivian went with another vendor (e.g. Mobileye) that would continue to include ultrasonic and radar. I really like the cross-traffic radar on my truck vs my 2018 Model 3. I also like the parking assistance from that the ultrasonic sensors allow. But I agree that Rivian should farm out the "assisted driving" part.

If Rivian went with Tesla, both the ultrasonic and the radar would be removed and that would have me seriously reconsidering. Both of those technologies work in rain and snow and are fit for purpose (unlike trying to shoehorn cameras into sensing everything... for example, see how shitty the Tesla "rain detection" system is as compared to other vehicles using a simple rain sensor fit for purpose).

My Wife is testing full self driving in her MYP. Her co-worker, a neurosurgeon, swears by it as it drivers her home. I am glad we tried it as I disliked it and now have no interest in it.

I doubt it's Rivian they are in talks with. Rivian has no reason to toss their system. It works well enough and Rivian and Tesla aren't the best buddies despite the NACS thing.
