I agree.. we need to have personal responsibility about our driving habits so we dont get distracted. I’ve even changed my habits to just say NO to my phone being available… but let’s be real, many of us got used to how CarPlay functioned and helped kept our eyes and hands on the task. However, I think it’s “fair” to wish there was some CarPlay and Android Auto integration to bring back some of those features we got accustomed to.

Over time I’ve adapted to the Rivian entertainment system offerings and quite enjoy it… but its improving over time and they COULD roll out more functionality to account for what CarPlay could do for several years now.

But yeah… I highly doubt the OP really blames Rivian for getting the ticket. But I dont think that was the intention of his post.

For holding my cell phone.
It would have never happened in my my Chevy Bolt or even in my FJ Cruiser because I had CarPlay in both of those cars.

Reluctance to integrate CarPlay in the Rivian has made everybody less safe in these big heavy cars.
I love my R1T, I absolutely hate that it has a sub par entertainment system, I can't ask Siri for my next meeting or have a decent navigation system.
The real time traffic in your system is always wrong.
I can't share my arrival time with a voice command, browse my playlists or select a podcast without having to grab my phone. Which is illegal.

I don't want to touch my phone in the car.

Give. Us. CarPlay.

Time to get an Apple watch. I always have voice control with my Apple watch. Touching your Apple Watch is street-legal while it is not for your phone. It is starting again... Do not put ugly CarPlay in the beautiful Rivian. It ruins everything... lol.

But, I knew neither was available nor listed as a future improvement, offering.

I want CarPlay also. But I also can wait until I come to a stop to look at my phone. Maybe I just don't get enough important messages. Maybe I take for granted looking at my phone before I start driving to see my next appointment. Maybe I live in an area that requires me to pay more attention to the road.

My R1T also has a feature that allows me to pull over, possibly into a parking lot, if I do need to look at my phone. I guess that update hasn't been fully rolled out yet.

To each his won. I don't listen to music, take calls or flip people off whilst driving. Not because I'm a very focused man. It's quite the opposite. My first year in Uni and I had a lovely new car that I wrecked because I was fiddling with the sound system. That was it. I get distracted easily.
