For holding my cell phone.
It would have never happened in my my Chevy Bolt or even in my FJ Cruiser because I had CarPlay in both of those cars.

Reluctance to integrate CarPlay in the Rivian has made everybody less safe in these big heavy cars.
I love my R1T, I absolutely hate that it has a sub par entertainment system, I can't ask Siri for my next meeting or have a decent navigation system.
The real time traffic in your system is always wrong.
I can't share my arrival time with a voice command, browse my playlists or select a podcast without having to grab my phone. Which is illegal.

I don't want to touch my phone in the car.

Give. Us. CarPlay.

Because poking around on a phone is any less safe than poking around on your car display? I've seen plenty of people just staring at their radio scrolling for the right song or podcast, its not different than a phone. If you want to feel safer get a mount for your phone and put it next to the center display. Siri also works as normal regardless of Carplay. You can still ask Siri to send a text, read a text, get directions, send your location, etc.

"Stop breaking the law, asshole"

But seriously, we probably are all less safe, but it's from people driving around looking at their phones.

"Hey siri, when is my next meeting" works perfectly for me. Also you can dictate and siri will call and text people handsfree with the voice coming over bluetooth, just make sure your phone is on the charging pad facing up.

Navigation is spot on for me recently and seems to map exactly to Google routing, even if the mapbox live traffic isn't exactly right on the visualization.

Arrival time would require using apple maps, so yeah that's one thing.

Browsing playlists / selecting podcast... seems like you don't use spotify? Even so, if you're using bluetooth to listen to music, you can ask siri to play anything.

Initially it bothered me that my texts weren't automatically read to me. I've gotten used to asking "Siri, what's my message" and responding (or not) to the messages I receive. I've also gotten used to asking for playlists to be played - there was a learning curve on remembering to ask for it to be shuffled. I'm pretty happy with the navigation - it seems like it has improved greatly since delivery.

@ZenTurtle - I am with you on this one... Everyone keeps defending Rivians choice to not have it, and frankly its a dumb decision. We arent driving some 30k Nissan Sentra.

AA/AC does make the driving experience safer, hate to say it for those nay-sayers. I have a few drivers in my fleet that have installed AA/AC head units into their vehicles.. And I can say with 100% certainty that the dashcam in those vehicles record FAR LESS events than those without it. And every vehicle in my fleet has a AI DashCam, so we are notified of every phone event.

I know exactly why Rivian didnt sign up for the AA/AC feature, and I can still understand why they have not done it... The licensing fee is pretty steep. That isnt to say they should not have done it thou.

The next generation of AC, from my understandings in the automotive sector is every factory radio is going to BLOCK AC. Aftermarket will still allow it since it doesnt integrate into the into LAN/CANBUS/J1939/etc, system.

I dont have an issue with the navigation... But I also dont use it much.

I use siri to make calls and send texts all the time, while my phone is sitting on the charger mat. Sure no CarPlay, but siri works fine.

Maybe dont text and drive? I most be old because I am able to wait until I get to my destination to check text messages.

Also very unpopular opinion; I dont like/use carplay either. I turned it off in our other car. I hear the text messages ding and just ignore them.
If I would dare to look at my phone while driving my kids will yell at me since I openly condone it.
