Unpopular? It should be the most popular. It saves a lot of money. I've used a mobile charger on a 30A outlet with my Tesla for years, and now the Rivian. It's plenty for an overnight charge. I'd never waste the money on a dedicated charger.

I would go with Rivian charging station personally. I like it from a troubleshooting / warranty perspective and having it all in one app.

If I have any issues with the vehicle charging using the home charger, they can easily troubleshoot and point to only RIVIAN branded hardware as being faulty.

I like having the charger information in the app and letting it automatically handle updates in the background.

My unit is from 6/2023 which has a thick heavy duty cord that I personally like. I believe the newer units have a cord that is little bit easier to handle and wrap around the charging station.

Sometimes I have seen brand new Rivian charging stations being sold for $500 - $550 shipped on this forum / Facebook. Just try to stick with local pick-up to avoid scammers.
Exactly the same reasons why I got the Rivian EVSE ("wall charger"). Mine has Oct 2023 as date of manufacture and it is the new version with the thinner cord and slightly updated handle. I think the newer version started in Aug 2023. The Rivian EVSE charges instantaneously without the slight delay ("handshake") with the Tesla EVSE. You only have to use one app for both vehicle and EVSE. Only having to deal with one company as to troubleshooting and warranty claims is also a big factor in my decision to get the Rivian EVSE.

I went the Tesla Universal route. Price was ok and now I don’t worry about adaptors or future EV charging.

Edit: Here is a brand new Rivian charging station for $425 shipped.

FS: NIB OEM Rivian Wall Charger (EVSE). $425 Shipped. New in Box.
Sadly we found out it’s the older version from 2022 but for the price it’s still really good.

What’s wrong with the 2022 models?

They should all work just fine to get you full power possible for Rivian.

Nothing at all was just hoping it was the updated version.
Got it, thanks. I personally like the heavy duty cord. I feel like I got a good value for the $500 price tag for pre-order customers.

The brand new Rivian EVSE for $425 from forum members is a solid price for a well built charger. Hopefully Rivian can bring back one for that price point when the R2 launches.

I installed 1 Wallbox Pulsar Plus (https://amzn.to/3wpIgY1) 3 years ago with two EVs - I have had zero issues with the Wallbox. My circuit is limited to 208v 32 amps. I am about to install a second Pulsar Plus, and they will connect together on the same 32 amp circuit and essentially power share the same circuit, so that any given time neither exceeds 32 amps, but either one can put out 32 amps if the other is not delivering charge.

I should have installed two on the initial install. It's just easier.

The Tesla universal charger is a good option that was not available when I bought my first Wallbox. The 48 amp Tesla universal charger is $620. The 48 amp Wallbox Pulsar Plus is $699.
