So I decided to purchase a full size spare tire/wheel for my R1S.

Did you guys know the spare tire compartment in the R1S is too small for the full size spare? I was not aware of this - until yesterday.

Any thoughts on what I should do with it?

Did you buy a full size spare because you plan to off-road or go on very long road trips? If yes to either then there are options for storing it in or behind the vehicle. @909phillyman put together a nice setup for a swing-away carrier which mounts to the trailer hitch receiver.

I have the Rivian collapsible spare for regular driving and a full size spare I put in the cargo area when we go on very long road trips or off road adventures. Even with the Rivian collapsible spare, you always need to plan for carrying a full size because the flat has to go somewhere.

If you bought it from Rivian, return it for an exchange for the inflatable spare that fits in the spare tire compartment?

Or try selling the wheel + tires and recover the outlay and buy the inflatable spare?

This was discussed at length. The compact spare is your only choice for internal storage on the R1S. Sell it off or use it as a 5th tire for rotation.

Good points! I have had two flats within a few weeks of getting my Rivian. One was so bad I had to replace the tyre. I got the DT warranty and put in an order for the collapsible spare. I bet now, I will never get another flat! Rivian is sending someone to "install" the spare. Do you know what that entails? Cheers.

Intall = replace the felt liner of the spare compartment with one with a hole in the center, exposing a threaded hole beneath, and screw a rod into it that will be used to secure the tire in place. Old liner makes a nice bin for the garage or shed!
