Turning Circle/Radius

One of the things I hate about my 2018 F150 is that it is hell to get into a parking space. I am super happy that the Rivian will be smaller. But the real culprit here is the turning radius.
My F150 has a turning radius of 26.9 ft. Do we know what the Rivian is rated for?
Tank turn would be handy here, but...

This is a great question, our Sienna Minivan is a very large vehicle but the turning radius is very small and consequently the car is VERY easy to drive and park. This is overlooked way too often.

Reviews USED to report the turning radius everytime, that has not been happening as much recently in my observation.

Yep I've driven an F650 water truck with a better turning circle than an older F150.

My RAM feels like it has a 100 yard turning radius lol. Hoping the R1T is much better in that regard. Basically impossible to park in some of the smaller parking lots around town unless they are mostly empty.

Totally agree! My wife is always on my ass because I park in the back 40 everywhere we go in our Ram truck. Certainly look forward to something easier to maneuver. I will however miss the Ram Box's a bit (till I get used to the gear tunnel anyway).

You know, this whole turning radius issue could be resolved simply by just unlocking the Tank-Turn feature. For in-town use, it would also give us the chance to evaluate Nationwide's Collision and Liability Claims handling....frequently.....right up until cancellation.

Great Question and one that I was waiting to talk to a guide about. I currently drive a Tundra and trying to U-turn across three lanes of highway is nerve-racking especially if you have oncoming traffic. My wife drives a Yukon And that thing turns amazing on a dime. I hope the Rivian can turn the same way. But I would think with a feature like Tank turn available and the ability to power each wheel individually that the turning radius should be better. That is definitely something to keep an eye on.

I know it is different, but the patent application makes it seem like the rear inside wheel will either be static (and produce a lot of drag when on pavement) or be spun in the rearward direction (similar to the off-road only Tank Turn) which would also create a great deal of force.

From the application:
" Further, backward torque is provided to the rear wheels of the vehicle. Yet further, the rear wheels of the vehicle remain substantially in static contact with a ground while the front wheels slip in relation to the ground "

This K-turn thing certainly addresses my concern. And it explains why they would not list any spec around this until it is ready to demonstrate. It looks like it can either pivot on one rear wheel or pivot at the center point between the rear wheels. Like the rear is doing a tank turn while the front is drug sideways by the slipping front wheels. Not as brutal as tank turn but might still leave marks in the parking lot.

I want a parking lot compatible tank turn. Just drive straight down the middle and slowly rotate then pull forward. WE LIVE IN THE FUTURE LETS START ACTING LIKE IT

Has anyone seen published turning circle/radius specs for the R1T and R1S? All else being equal, I think the R1S should be able to make a tighter turn because of the shorter wheelbase. I’m just curious.
