Has anyone put a VelociRAX on an R1S? I'm looking at getting the VelociRAX 7 and wondering if there are any fit issues?

Yep! Ours fits perfect. I love that it ratchets down tight in the hitch receiver because there is minimal movement over bumps, etc. the toughest part is getting it in the receiver because it is high up. Not bad, but I find it best to lower the car first. There is a bit of wind resistance because the rack is taller than the roof line with bikes on it. I don’t have numbers for efficiency, but I’m sure it impacts it a little. No clearance issues. Actually, because it is a split hatch, it might even clear the rack when in the load/unload position. I didn’t check that, but I will when I get home next week.

Thanks so much for the quick response!!! I'm pretty excited to haul 7 people and 7 bikes around!

I have one too. They are great, but make sure to also use ratchets on outside rack down to tow hooks
Needs the extra stability to not bounce around

Do you have any trouble with the hitch locking pin? I've heard the pin is not long enough to fit all the way through the R1S receiver and lock on the other side.

Ok I went for it and yes the rack hitch pin fits great no issues on R1S! Not sure where the bad info came from on FB. Cheers!

Are you able to open the lift gate or tailgate with the rack installed?

The rack is designed to tilt down for easier loading/unloading of bikes. With it tilted down you can open the liftgate and the tailgate. The tailgate gets really close to a part of the rack that is involved in the lowering process when the tailgate is all the way down. But you can flip that part of the rack out of the way if it makes you nervous of a scratch.

I would post pictures but mine isn't on my car right now.

How difficult are these to install solo? The weight is one thing, but are you able to find a good balance point to lift and guide into the hitch somewhat smoothly? Or is this a 2 person job?

I do it solo, but I would not say it's easy. It's really easy with two people. Probably prohibitively difficult for a lot of people to do it solo without any type of aid.

Have you tried to measure the wind resistance impact to efficiency? Also what about additional wind noise especially with bikes loaded up? Lastly, was curious about bugs splattering all over the bikes on the freeway given they are so high up and exposed. Am thinking about getting the 5 bike version. Any info appreciated!

When it is tilted back, both the liftgate and tailgate can open. It is within a few inches of hitting the rack or bikes but it clears!

As a 6' athletic male it is difficult to install solo but I can do it. I have to carefully brace using my shoulders on the rack and I'm just tall enough for it to work. With 2 people it is much easier.
