Powered tonneau at delivery

It's odd you think that making a well-made tonneau cover is too difficult for Ford, GM or Rivian. I don't think I would buy a truck from a company who thought it was too difficult to manufacture a functional and reliable tonneau cover.

It's not too difficult for Ford and Chevrolet. They choose not to. On the other hand, Rivian decided to try it and look at the outcome.

This is why Ford and Chevrolet don't make tires.

I'm getting mixed messages because, in the context of recommending "competent aftermarketeers" for a tonneau, you stated,

It sounds like you are saying that it takes special expertise to make a functional tonneau cover, that Ford and GM didn't have. Because neither company is known for having a lack of over-priced truck accessories you can add onto your new truck order to boost the final price (and profits) skyward.

Why did you suggest Rivian should have followed in Ford and GM's footsteps and NOT offered a factory tonneau cover at all? Because the aftermarket companies have made billions in profits from tonneau covers that people seem to like. I would rather have a cover made specifically for my model of truck, at no additional cost (above the MSRP), like Tesla does with the Cybertruck. They know it's an option that most buyers will find attractive, so they just include it.

The Cybertruck is the one that loses 10% of it's range if the cover open, right? Of course they had to include it.

I don’t blame you for being angry. Wait until you need some other work done by Rivian. Their customer service has become one of the worst in the industry. Far surpassing dealership networks.

It is unfortunately something you just have to accept if you want to drive the truck. Hopefully they will improve at some point in the future. Having been on this journey for 2+ years, it’s only gotten worse.
