So, I finally received my Lectron adapter Yesterday and was eager to try it before an upcoming road trip. I've only charged at home and wanted a test before I had to rely on it in the wilds.

I tossed it in the frunk this morning before heading out and made a pit stop for coffee. I realized I left my keys and fob in the garage. I thought to myself, "cool" PAAK worked perfectly. I have never ventured out without the fob before. I had bad experiences with PAAK on my Lincoln Aviators and was not a fan.

I made my way to the getGo which is conveniently next to work. I learned a few things from the forums. I entered the destination into the R1S's nav and it preconditioned the battery so when I arrived I plugged the adapted into the R1S, and plugged the Tesla SC cable into the adapter, and it automagically started to charge; I thought "cool".

Eight chargers and I'm the only one there. This is a new installation and conveniently there was a stall between the station I chose and the handicap accessible station so I didn't have any parking awkwardness to deal with.

The getGo has a cafe, so I had a light breakfast in the morning sun enjoying the charging bliss. The moment of truth came when the charge ended. I was anticipating a struggle disconnecting the SC cable from the adapter, but no such drama, it came apart easily. I thought "cool".

With a sense of accomplishment I turned around to put the adapter back into the frunk but it wouldn't open... I though "hmmm", I walk to the door and notice it's not entirely closed and the handles are not presented, I thought "not cool", sure enough the doors were locked. My phone perched securely on the magnetic mount, my fob safely laying in my garage 30 miles away. I thought "!@#%$&!"

How did it lock itself, why? How the hell could I unlock it? Of course Alexa was as frustratingly useless as it everywhere. "Alexa unlock the door", Alexa roll down the window", Alexa initiate self destruct sequence, code Zero Zero Zero Destruct Zero" Alexa each time cloyingly responded "I don't know that one". The display showed that the door was open, but it wasn't. I had flashbacks of HAL9000 telling Dave it wasn't going to open the pod bay door.

I recalled someone else posting about being locked out and warning that everyone should have the card key in their wallet, that wouldn't have helped, because my wallet was locked up safely too.

This is a defect in my opinion.
Facts:
  1. My "key" was in the vehicle.
  2. The vehicle was in park.
  3. Nobody and nothing was resting on any seat in the vehicle.
  4. I did not press the door lock button.
  5. I did not fully close the door.
  6. The doors locked on their own.
This experience was not a good one, I did get quite a few nods of approval on the R1S parked there from the occasional Tesla driver, but no conversations. I didn't relish talking about the top notch security logic employed in the R1S.

I'm confused, the handles are presented in your photo. How did you pay for your breakfast without a wallet or phone?

Rivian will supposedly unlock remotely if you call them. I've never been in this situation though.

Phone in the truck, is that number 1 800 Rivian?
Rivian 4 for roadside assistance, 5 for service, 1 for general support.

I'm curious if your truck was actually locked or if it just failed to present the driver's door handle. Did you try to push the detent in and pull the handle anyway?

I had something similar to this happen to me expect when I was in the middle of the Mojave desert about 50 miles from the nearest town…luckily the person I was with had their phone with one bar of reception. Called my wife and she was able to remotely unlock the car using the app on her phone and I was able to get in.

You could try that next time instead of having someone drive out to you?

But I do agree this is a terribly annoying behavior where a phone in the car also allows the car to lock. Though i thought there was a setting to disable automatic locking.

ok, there’s a corner case you may need to consider.

Recently, I dropped my truck off to have PDR work done. The shop had the key in the truck, and it was unlocked. I forgot to grab a jacket so I went back, grabbed the jacket, and walked away. The truck was using my PaaK, so locked when I left. I have the Fob disabled for proximity.

In your case, here is my suspicion:
1) Your truck initially (at your home) used your Fob as the primary key
2) As such, your PaaK wasn’t actually THE key for that drive
3) When you parked, the truck remembered the Fob and not the Phone

If this is indeed the case, it’s a bug.

I’d call Rivian and have them get someone smart from tech on the phone, and document this in a support case. Somehow, for whatever reason, it wasn’t detecting proximity - or prioritizing it - with your phone.

I don't know that my truck will lock if I fail to close the driver's door all the way unless I explicitly tell it to.

Yeah good point - weird behavior.

Maybe his wife locked him out from home on purpose.

Google Pay on my watch. I could text and email too from my watch, that's how I texted for a rescue.

With the widget on the home screen, could have been accidental, but there's also the "you left the vehicle unlocked" message that I get constantly about my wife's R1S because my son doesn't always close the door completely or at all. So could be she locked it thinking she was doing him a favor. Didn't think to unlock it when asked to drive the key fob out.

I have never ventured out without the fob before.
:movember: I have never ventured out with my fob unless I'm going to the Rivian SC, a car wash for detailing, or a hotel where I might have to valet. Phone is all I have every day. Anyone else this brave? or is this adventuring level = stupid?

I was pushing and pulling that handle, some salty language thrown in too for effect.
