It surprises me that so many people fixate over the clock placement. I mean, how often does one have to look for a clock? Don’t most people have watches, if they can’t see the current Rivian clock placement? I mean, a clock on the driver’s display would be fine, but…. Of all the things I would like to see on the driver’s display, a clock would be way down my priority list. But, each to their own, I guess.

As for the blind spot camera view, properly adjusted outside mirrors pretty much eliminate blind spots. I don’t think most people adjust those mirrors properly. I suspect many people adjust those mirrors so that they can see the sides of their vehicle. In normal driving, who needs to see the sides of the car? You need to see that lane next to you. So, move the mirrors out a bit, until the combination of mirrors and peripheral vision eliminates the bind spot. On the rare occasion when you do need to see the side of your car, just tilt your head a bit. I traded in my beloved Toyota FJ Cruiser for the R1T. Many have complained about the blind spots on the FJ. However, with properly adjusted side mirrors, I never had any such issue, whatsoever. I will have to try to get used to the Rivian camera view, or not.

After years of driving, I have always relied on mirrors to drive. I have yet to get truly comfortable with relying on cameras, that often don’t give a well defined view of surroundings. For some purposes, the cameras are great. For others, not so much. For instance, during normal driving, a rear view camera has limited use. It distorts distance and sacrifices clarity (good reason not to buy a CT). If there is a car a few hundred feet, or more, behind me, I want to know if it’s a cop. Good luck doing that with the rear camera view.

Again, for me, the best feature of this new update has been the suspension improvement on my R1T. It’s just more settled. Harshness over irregularities seems to be significantly improved. Speed bumps and dips are handled noticeably better - less wallowing, especially from the rear suspension. The other changes I will have to discover and adjust to.

I do notice an improvement in ride. Generally smoother, and not sure if it is my imagination, but taking turns seems to have less friction. And as per their release notes, I agree that there is less rocking during acceleration and deceleration.

But, and maybe I just haven't noticed in a while, I see that turning stability to "off" is no longer an option. The stability options vary for different drive modes, and "off" is only available in Off-Road: Drift as far as I could tell. In All-Purpose and Sport, for example, it looks like there are three options, but I could only select On or Reduced. Did they remove the option for turning stability off? Or is there some sensor/computers noticing less than optimal road conditions and temporarily disabling the "Off" option? It did rain last night, but most of the roads were dry.

Push and hold the right side of the Stability button and you’ll see that after holding long enough for a timer bar to fill it will switch to Off.

You can really press and hold anywhere, but I find my finger blocks the button view if I press too far to the left.

OMG! Thanks a ton, Rivian!! (Has a nice ring to it ) R1S Gen 1 owners rejoice! Rivian shareholders - cork up the champagne. Skeptics - time to leave!
What an update. Completely revamped the driving experience. And I am not exaggerating. I was satisfied with the pre-update ride quality and had made my peace with it that it is “satisfactory” - squarely in the middle, at least better than some harsher Tesla models. But this update? Wow- it’s a different vehicle. Completely in the league of Range Rover and BMW X5/iX/X7. Super comfortable ride. Even on moderate settings, All-purpose. Even sport mode is now awesome. But a lot of other things seem different too
1. Throttle response, so much better. Does feel like a super car now. Prior to the update I really didn’t feel the power
2. Efficiency - better! Or maybe calibration/estimate is better but definitely a change
3. Turn signal camera- awesome. Copied Tesla but who cares.

So I can assure you all this is not a placebo - figment of my imagination kind of thing. There is one patch of road, near our house, where no matter what car we drive in our household, every member feels it. But nope, not today. It was like floating on a cloud.

All of you there waiting for the update, you are in for a treat.

I added sound deadening material (dynamat) to the under side of the entire plastic cover where the AC compressor is housed. It reduced the noise significantly and reduced the vibration in the pedal and the whole front of the car. A very inexpensive fix with massive improvements. I even think the AC works a little better after doing that but that could just be my imagination.
