I was hoping that when the dynamic glass roof was off, that it would be transparent. When it's off it's translucent but fairly opaque. Milky looking.

Is anyone else seeing this? I know there aren't that many Gen2s out there yet.

The pictures show the roof when on, off and how a side window looks. The red Rivian is a reflection from below.

Have you (or anyone else) tested the heat-blocking ability when on vs. off?

I'm on the fence about whether I want the dynamic roof — if it just diffuses light and doesn't help the cabin stay cooler, probably not worth it for me. I don't live close enough to a SC to see one in person.

How does the dynamic roof off compare to one of the rear side windows? Those are darker than the front side windows, right?

I feel like I remember seeing similar in the showroom. Not as clear as Gen 1.

I’m perfectly happy with Gen 1 and a sun shade for the roof.

What bothers me the most is sunlight when the sun is right at the top around 12 PM - 2 PM time. My wife mentioned it helps cut down heat as well.

Let’s hope Gen 2 Dynamic roof is good right out of the box.

it will for sure solve the issue of annoying sun above you but not sure about heat in the cabin when sitting outdoor.

I am watching. Will likely decide if I order, or pick something up in the shop.

Agreed with this - the dynamic roof, at best, will help with the "optical" issues the most - yes being more opaque, and being white/light in color will probably reflect a bit of heat (on top of just preventing some visible spectrum light getting to internal surfaces that are darker in color and would hold me heat, but I do not believe the electrochromic film itself adds any meaningful UV/infrared rejection, just visible. So even with it fully opaque it probably wouldn't do as good of a job at heat rejection as a specifically tuned IR/UV film. But it's better than "nothing"

I live in the Pacific North West where heat... is just starting. I'll try to pay attention to whether it makes a difference.

The rear windows just block a bit of light, like using sun glasses. They are fully transparent. The dynamic glass roof is not fully transparent, it's translucent. Even when off.

I understand that it’s a flashy feature but it’s a lazier attempt to add traditional shade functionality.

Someone needs to do a test for both light transmittance and also for UV Heat rejection.

It's an excellent feature to have. My only concern about adding film to the roof is that it will cause heat buildup. I heard a few stories. Don't recall where of folks having the roofs crack when they installed heat rejecting film.

I'm in the same boat. Our Gen1 gets toasty when the sun is high and was looking to this feature to help if I upgrade but if it does nothing for the inside temp reduction, I'll pass. Maybe it's not worth it.

Possibly some coffee cake and a nice cup of fair trade rainforest blend.

I wish we have the 'care' reaction in this forum
