This time around I think Rivian is going to hold off a bit until they can catch up on processing some of the current demos that are in the middle of being purchased. Also, I think the 4th of July holiday probably got them behind.

I wondered how long they stay on there listed as sale pending. Mine is still listed as pending and I got it on June 30.

Mine remained up for about a month. I don't know what internal event triggers the removal. It really doesn't matter: I can't think of a good reason for the "sale pending" list to exist at all other than to cultivate regret at "the ones that got away," which is probably good marketing.

Before I purchased mine, it was 'Sale Pending' multiple times over span of two months before becoming available for me to finally purchase. I am not sure Rivian's rationale for the long drawn out 'Sale Pending' status, but for me, it made it easier to track the R1T I wanted once it became 'Available' again.

A bunch of vehicles are now available, with over a dozen being added since this morning. The count was at 17 a few minutes ago, but it’s at 15 available now. One of the vehicles that disappeared was an R1S, but there is currently another 2022 R1S listed for $73,011. I keep checking for my desired config with my fingers still crossed.

Can you finance these demo vehicles through Rivian or do we need to find our own financing? Would these be considered new vehicles since they were not titled to a customer yet?

Rivian includes 3rd party financing or you can submit your own during the online purchase process

Yes, Rivian offers financing but it's likely higher interest than what you can find locally. I ended up financing through my regular credit union.

And yes, since they have never been titled they are considered "new".

You may even qualify for a point of sale EV tax credit ($3,750) if your income level is eligible.

Really curious as to why they don't offer leases on these.

Has anyone had trouble with Rivian trying to get the buyer to pay for property tax for previous years on these demo vehicles?

I have a 2022 R1T on the way and they have extra property tax on the sales contract for 2022, 2023, and 2024 on line 10 (Vehicle License, Registration, Transfer, and Titling Fees). This adds almost $2,000 to the purchase price. They are saying I need to prove that I've paid all the property tax on this vehicle for 2022-2024 or they will be forced to charge me for the property tax that they owe on the vehicle.

Also, they can't seem to figure out what my sales tax rate is. It took 2 weeks for my guide to say they would charge the proper sales tax for my delivery address. The paperwork came through with an extra $711 tax on line 7a (Other Taxes), that turned out to be for the city that I live near. I'm in the county, so I don't pay that extra 1% sales tax. Their response was "you're in that ZIP code, so you pay the city's sales tax", even though the ZIP code straddles at least two different sales tax zones. After an extra week, they claim to have that adjusted, but are still dragging on about this excess property tax.

The Rivian purchase process is so screwy and they are going to need to fix this BEFORE the R2 hits the market.

Ouch, no, I didn't have any property tax junk when I bought mine back in May.

You didn't own the vehicle in 2022 or 2023, so that seems absurd.

They were adamant about this crazy property tax request. They went so far as that someone from Rivian went out to my county's web site, found my house on the property tax system and took a screen grab of the fact that I had already paid the property tax on my HOUSE for 2023 and posted that to the Upload Documents section of the Rivian web site for me. They would not remove 2023 vehicle property tax from my Rivian purchase until after they documented that I paid my house's property tax for me and refused to even discuss how absurd that request was. They claimed to send me a link to the Kansas statues that required them to behave like this, but that email mysteriously never arrived. :)

Even after doing that they still had me pay a whole year worth of property tax for 2024 for the vehicle license plate. This is even though my license plate will only be good for 3 months, expiring at the end of November. At that point, I'll pay for a full year of property tax for 2025. They claim that they will refund the approximately $600 difference in the 2024 property tax (3 months vs full year) when they go to register the vehicle with Kansas.

This wouldn't have been an issue if they just sent me a certificate of origin a week after delivery like every other new vehicle purchase in Kansas. Let the purchaser go to the DMV and deal with that. It's not a difficult process now that the DMV lets you get in line with your cell phone before you even leave home.

Multiple times, people at Rivian have told me, "buying a Rivian isn't like buying any other vehicle." In this case, "That's not something for you to be proud of!"

I missed getting a check from the bank yesterday before they closed, so delivery will have to wait until next weekend since the service center for the delivery is a 5-6 hour round trip from home.
