Has anyone placed a piece of plywood on the roof carriers to block out the sun? ....
Here is a wild idea. How about putting 2 surfboards on the roof?
It will add some style while providing some shade. Perhaps buy some used surfboards instead of new because they are going to get beating up in the sun.
They also should be more aerodynamic than a sheet of plywood.

It's probably not as effective as all the other suggestions mentioned already. I'm just sharing an alternative idea.

I might do this to mine for fun...such as cutting a shark bite out of the board for giggles (especially if the board is beat up)

It took me multiple purchases to find the right one for my R1S. Complications included poor fitment, loose material when mounted, or difficultly keeping the screen attached. Many did not meet my expectations until I found one.

EVBase R1S Sunshade (Front & Rear)

The large sun shade fits perfectly. The screen is tight and retains a factory-like look. There is no seams that have light leaking through and no loose edges. Same with the rear. For the front shade, you’ll need a trim removal tool to open up the head liner so it snaps in place. It takes a bit to get it in there but it’s all worth it. Highly recommend and it also allows some light through which is a nice touch.
How hard was it to install. And is it such that you'd be willing to uninstall each fall/winter, and re-install each spring/summer??
Thanks
Steve

Has anyone tried a mirror wrap on the exterior glass? White is good, but not as good a mirror. Seems like the mirror wrap would outperform white.

Anyone try it yet?

On a 1 to 5 scale, 1. I haven’t taken it out and don’t have plans to until winter. I’ll report back then on when I do. I’ve enjoyed the shade more than I expected. Especially with my two year old in the back covered as well.

Got these a few days ago. Weather is in the 90s and it has made a noticeable difference.

Thanks for your input.
I agree that this seems to be the best quality option. I ordered it.
I'm still a little skeptical that it will result in a large temp decrease.
That's what I need here in AZ.
We'll see!

These are a little more expensive but I got these. Noticeably better quality and fitment IMO but still not perfect.

Note, this product is actually sold and shipped by Amazon. It's not a third party seller using Amazon as fulfilment. I tend to trust products a little more when Amazon's buyers have taken a look at the product and have procured it for Amazon to sell directly.

Maybe the Gen2 has different glass. I bought roof shades off Amazon before delivery, then returned them because the roof glass doesn’t heat up in my Gen 2 R1S. Houston in July, and it’s fine, unlike my F-150 that had a factory roof shade.

I assume that is when you have the glass "shade" turned on?

Sharing the fitment of the EVBase glass cover. It’s tight, clean, and no wrinkles.

I read all the same comments but tinted the roof anyway. I have made it through the summer so far with no issues. I even asked the shop about it and he said he has never had a vehicle come back because the tint caused the glass panel any damage.

I had ALL glass tinted with whatever the top of the line Xpel tint is. It definitely made a difference but I don’t have any numbers to verify.
what shade of tint did you go with for the roof?

The tinted roof glass cracking is just a myth. The only cases I could find was for inferior cheap glass w/o any UV protection which is not the case for Rivians or any other OEM roof glass now-a-days.

Another great thing about the EVSportLine product is the removable reflector layer which gives you the best of both worlds; i.e. opaque reflector or mesh.
Thank you. I tinted my roof. Now I hesitate to install my roof shades. Anyone have a different first hand experience to share? I am still reading through the rest of the posts here…
