I spoke to a neighbor and congratulated him on buying a R1S gen 2. He told me he ordered in 2021 and kept his price hold. Rivian allowed him to get a gen 2 for the same price as a gen 1. Didn’t know they would allow you to do that without paying the difference.

He had a dual motor. So how would quad motor price hold buyers buy a gen 2 quad motor since it’s not out? Would they just give you a gen 2 tri motor for the quad motor price of $80k?

No one is getting a Gen 2 Quad motor with a pre-order voucher.

Voucher expires by the end of September and after that point you will start to see tri-motor and quad motor production / delivery.

I highly doubt we will even see any Tri-motors in the shop for voucher holders to attempt to purchase by the deadline. There is a reason Rivian was charging $3,000 non-refundable deposit for Tri-motor.

Most voucher holders are going with Gen 1 Quad motor or Gen 2 dual motor at this point.

If voucher expires end of September why not wait and see if there’s a chance they do list them? I wouldn’t say no one is getting them they’re just not listed right now because they haven’t gone into production yet. There is a slight chance they’ll be on there. What’s the big deal with the quad and tri motor anyway? When do you need to go that fast? And if you do there’s a limiter on the car at 130 mph I believe? I just don’t get the need for wanting the speed with a SUV.

You have to take delivery by the end of September which can take 1 - 6 weeks and possibly miss the deadline to redeem the voucher. Quad motor will be available in 2025.

I have a need for speed otherwise I would've gone with one of the slower SUV out there.

I don’t get it, the gen2 just came out a couple months ago. Not 2021. I must have missed something.

I am (my wife is) the early reservation holder also. I was also hoping to get a tri-motor from the shop too.

Since we got no response sending email in, we had scheduled and went to a local test drive event in San Jose just to have a Q&A with the staff last Saturday.

The Rivian guide said we will not see a customer tri-motor on the road till October the earliest. In fact, they just got their very first Gen2 demo unit in last week (which wasn't available for test drive).

A Tri-Motor September delivery is 99% out of the questions.

From the guide. the "R1 shop" cars are basically someone's pre-order and forfeited it. We doubt anyone will forfeited $3000.

Based on all these info., we pulled the triggers and put in this "R1 shop" order.

Would you guys go 1st gen quad motor or 2nd gen dual motor assuming same price?
2nd generation dual motor by a mile for me.

Love my G1 CY S, but I'll take all the nice 2nd generation upgrades. Outside of the color, not sure any advantage of my G1 Quad. over the G2 dual.

Gen2 for the autonomy upgrades for sure. On the recent motortrend interview, RJ talked about how the Gen1 mobileye system is at 75% of its capability while the Gen2 platform is like just getting started at 1% of its capabilities. The hardware in Gen2 will support a lot of features to come that just won't be possible on Gen1 vehicles.
