I almost never use my fob but agree it should be standard. Maybe it is like the 12v outlets and Rivian has been magically tracking how many people use it and it’s much lower than we thought???‍♂

How much can a FOB cost Rivian? It should be included even if many people rarely use them.
For example I'll bet towing represents something like .001% of miles put on the average Rvian but that doesn't mean Rivian should remove towing capability because it's "rarely used".

To be fair just cause Tesla did something doesn't mean Rivian should follow... Didn't RJ say that everyone shouldn't just copy Tesla.. and recently?

To part of my point to all of you saying this makes sense. I placed a non-refundable deposit on a $100k truck expecting it to have certain features based on documentation at the time but that appears to be changing over time... I wonder what the next surprise will be.
Do as I say, not as I do. Isn't Rivian currently being sued by Tesla for hiring previous Tesla employees and then stealing trade secrets

This is the first I am hearing about this.. I know many don't use these physical keys but I do so this is disappointing.

What I am getting in my next Rivian still feels like a moving target which is frustrating having placed a non-refundable deposit.
What non-refundable deposit did you place? The deposits are relatively small and 100% refundable until you confirm configuration at which point you should know whether a fob is part of the purchase

I think it’s dumb too. Having to carry an extra key that doesn’t work as well as a traditional fob in case my phone dies or gets damaged is lame. I get that PAAK works works most of the time for most people but for anyone else the access issues are still kind of embarrassing. Just include a fob that doesn’t suck.

THIS.....My PAAK works most of the time. If they do away with a fob on my next Rivian then I am making a service appointment EVERY FREAKING time it fails. I'm on my second T and they both have had PAAK issues. Two days ago got a message while driving that I didn't have a key in the vehicle. Had my phone (yes app was open) and a key card. Their software doesn't work as well as they think. Or they accept too high of a failure rate for my taste.

Most of my issues with phone as key land squarely on my phone being the problem. Restarting bluetooth on the phone has cured it every time.

This is why they are switching to UWB. Bluetooth works *mostly* but it really wasn't designed to be used at a key for a car

This is correct however not exactly as it seems n the surface.
The "Trade Secrets" that Tesla is alleging were acquired by Rivian were for employee compensation package info NOT for technologies relating to creating EV's. I think most people assume Rivian is being accused of patent infringement or manufacturing trade secret theft which is untrue.

Might be the first YOU heard of it but it was pretty much announced with the refresh.

A vast majority of people do not use it. For those that do, buy one. Other option, go online and whine about it.
Whining about somebody you percieve as whining. Epic!

Yeah I know it’s not impossible to troubleshoot but I have also never had to troubleshoot the proximity based fob of any other car I’ve owned.

Rivian still has some breadcrumb references to key fobs in the 2025 user manual, so either key fobs are eventually coming for gen 2 or they overlooked these sections.

I don't see any FCC filings on the updated fobs, so it likely means they just plain aren't ready yet.

They said they will become available for purchase on G2.
