They said they will become available for purchase on G2.
I don't take anything said by a representative as gospel. Even things RJ has said are coming sometimes haven't.

We were supposed to be able to buy the wristbands out of the gear shop too. I know Rivian still has some stock on them since they replaced mine under warranty this month.

Might be the first YOU heard of it but it was pretty much announced with the refresh.

A vast majority of people do not use it. For those that do, buy one. Other option, go online and whine about it.
Well I watched a lot of that media and didn't hear that a Key fob would no longer be included. So if I have to pay $250 or $500 all the sudden for a key fob then I am paying the same but getting less than I thought.

Maybe I should see if they want to negotiate on the price or maybe I should request a refund?

I never use the fob-- but I did recently when dropping vehicle off for new tires.

In those cases, what would the work around be?

I just picked up my Gen2 R1S yesterday and they no longer are giving out key fobs. I also asked the delivery guy if I can order one for my vehicle and he said he doesn't think so.

I looked on the Rivian shop and don't see the fob for sale anymore, but perhaps I just can't find it because there is no search option and they have a million apparel products clogging up the shop.

Either way a bummer!

I don't use the key fobs but understand why some folks prefer them. Rivian should make them optional at least so if one prefers to use a fob they have the option.

What non-refundable deposit did you place? The deposits are relatively small and 100% refundable until you confirm configuration at which point you should know whether a fob is part of the purchase
Reservations for Dual Standard, Dual Large, Dual Max, and Tri Max are $1,000 non-refundable because these are essentially just orders.

Edit: Tri Max is $3,000 as well, thanks @jjswan33
R1T deposits are non refundable now.
Quad Max is $3,000 and is fully refundable.

The only time I used my keyfob has been for service...

Phone key has been 100% reliable for me, I also carry a key card if I'm going out of town.
Or going out for dinner and I valet, honestly something physical for valet service is the only real time I bring my fob.

Just adding my agreement. First of all, any time you want someone else to drive the car (valet, friend, family, whatever), the fob is necessary. The keycard is way too complicated, finicky, and inconvenient.

Second, lots of adventures involve not bringing your phone, or situations where you phone may die. Going running, biking, surfing, a day-long hike or multi-day backpack. You would think an adventure vehicle would come with a plan for that. Yes, you can use the keycard, but the fob would be better. Unfortunately, I currently use the card just because the fob is too flaky in my experience. Frustrating that Rivian scores these own goals (see also: bluetooth for entry/exit).

Well, the 99% of posters who say "I never use my fob", "it's useless", etc... why don't y'all sell them to those of us who'd like to have a second fob? You make a few extra $$ and we get something not available from Rivian. I'm sure Rivian can reprogram a vehicle to use a non-original fob otherwise they would never be able to replace a lost/damaged fob.

Most of my issues with phone as key land squarely on my phone being the problem. Restarting bluetooth on the phone has cured it every time.
In my case it does it on three different phones (2 iphones & 1 android) and doesn't happen with our bmw.

DM me. Mine has been hanging on a hook for a year.

And listen, I’m not saying there is no need for a fib and some people may love them. My feeling, guess, whatever you want to call it is that there is a limited demand for the fob. Someone asked earlier how much could it possibly cost? Even if it’s only $10 each that is still at least half a million dollars a year.

It's because Rivian's bluetooth strategy is different, and bluetooth stacks in certain phones don't seem to like it.

Yep no more keyfob for gen2. Having said that, I've never actually used mine and really only use it when I toss the rivian service people "the key."

The phone as key works flawlessly for me. I only wish there was a way to force lock the vehicle instead of walking away and hoping it will lock. My prior vehicles had a little button or depression on the door you can touch to lock the doors before walking away.
