No moonroof, complain there is no moonroof for the price.
Give moonroof, complain face is too fucking hot.

Humans!

Should there be a retractable cover built in? Yes. Perhaps that might come in future generations.
Right now, you knew what you were buying. There are aftermarket covers if the sun bothers your delicates faces.

And change the deceptive title to the thread. That’s just pissing people off more than the actual post.

You didn’t explore the Rivian site before trying to purchase a vehicle?
Or like, look up before driving off? I bought used, but when I have been to the SC they have been giving thorough tours of vehicles to buyers, to include drives. Isn't there the "rivian first mile"
To me it sounds like OP signed the paperwork and drove off

Again: I had to purchase through the Shop only as a pre-reservation holder; Rivian policy change for those of us who are in that situation. No Configurator allowed. When I looked at the configurator there was no information just before purchase. Even the guides and Chat folks weren't able to give details about it. I didn't choose this exact configuration - it was what was available in the Shop that I was allowed to purchase.

So you didn’t explore what the options were at all, just decided to wing it and complain later if you didn’t like what you didn’t know you were getting?

This is what I don’t understand. OP makes it sound like they held a gun to his head to take a random vehicle without any info OP could have researched.

Pre-reservations still haven’t expired, correct? One could still pick any number of vehicles from the shop. Choosing from the shop doesn’t prevent you from reviewing the details of the option in the configurator, this website, YouTube, or in person.

Ah, the old fashioned hard sales technique where they hold a gun to your head and force you to buy something against your choice.

Just because you don’t like it or find it annoying doesn’t make it a safety issue. You bought a vehicle with a glass roof designed to shade opaque when commanded. It does that, you just don’t like how it does that.
Please reread the initial. Pre-reservation holders could only choose from the Shop. Limited choices in my zip code.

>sigh< What makes you think I didn't reach out to Rivian Guides, chat, email, etc. to get more information about it before purchasing.....??

Again, nobody made you buy right the second they came out before any info was available. You still could get one from the shop today and get your pre-price-hike discount. The day of the Gen 2 release there were video reviews on YouTube showing how the roof worked.

I do wish there was an option for 100% transparent roof glass.

So yes, I think it is disappointing that color changing roof doesn't check that box, but I thought that it was pretty 'clear' ;) that the color changing roof wasn't ever fully transparent in the marketing materials and reviews so I don't understand how the OP's was surprised by the roof being what it is.

So you were forced to buy something you didn’t want?

It seems like you are incapable of accepting any responsibility in the matter. You evidently didn’t even do the minimal research before throwing money on the table. It just took me less than five minutes on the Rivian website and I found a clear picture, video and description of the roof. Man up, admit you made a mistake and move on. The solutions are clear: learn to live with it, buy a sunshade or sell the Rivian.

I just wish Rivian had a no-glass option. The glass breaks if you as much as fart near it. It either melts what little hair most of us have or bakes bald heads. Most of us don't enjoy it because we're driving. Our 2-year old kid and/or dog could give two $hit$ about it. Gen1 owners have to resort to buying cheap looking shades. Now to add insult to injury, Gen2 owners are getting blinded by the light. So, ya I'm not a fan of the glass roof.

“In the excitement of getting a new R1, I didn’t research the vehicle as I should have.” Is the appropriate answer. And people, including me, wouldn’t be barking at you.
All the other stuff you’re saying is just bullshit. Take some responsibility for your life man. You’re not a victim. Can we close this thread?

I still wish Rivian would just offer a solid steel roof. Living in sunny Florida we get enough. It should be lighter and cheaper to do.
Likely isn’t cheaper because it would increase manufacturing costs. The glass roof thing started with Tesla because it makes assembly easier. You have direct access to the interior through the roof while installing all of the interior parts because the glass can be slapped on after the interior has been assembled. A fixed steel roof would be installed much earlier in the process and then interior assembly would have to occur only via the door openings.

++ on the no-glass option. Glass roofs add so much weight. I'm biased in that I had an old vehicle with a leaky sunroof so always avoided them after that.

I also hoped the dynamic roof would reduce heat buildup but was told by my guide it wouldn't. Even if they don't promote it as reducing heat, I believe they should note that it will NOT. I don't blame anyone believing the dynamic roof would keep it cooler.

I saw one other thread discussing wildshield tinting as well as the t-sportsline roof liner as good solutions. I assume tinting costs thousands so maybe will start with the latter.
