My BMW ix has the same dynamic roof. It's an expensive joke on that car and more of a parlor trick to show people thar it can go slighlty white opaque and blur things out like people do on Zoom calls. Most of the time I have to press the button since I can't tell when looking up if it's really in the "darker" tinting. But, hey, it beaps when it changes and people go cool!

i'll be anxiously awaiting my Gen2 R1S to return from rhe SC after 3 weeks of medhanical repairs down to replacement of nearly all modules and parts associated with the new heat pump. My front end is being put back on today after complete removal of bumber and fan assembly.

The panaormic glass, like many Tesla owners have disxovered, will get ceramic tinted for heat relfection. There were two Teslas including the new Cyberjunk getting their roofs tinted while I was in the shop a few weeks ago.

i think you are fighting an uphill battle on a piece of technology that's yet to be perfected by anyone.

Sure, understood if glass was a structural part of the vehicle design and simply inert. This is "dynamic" glass. It has functions, an on and off switch. I don't believe it was properly designed nor is function as expected by customers. It neither shades nor provides an unimpeded view when toggled off. I did not have a choice on this feature, I was limited to Rivan Shop availability.
Ah, the old fashioned hard sales technique where they hold a gun to your head and force you to buy something against your choice.

Just because you don’t like it or find it annoying doesn’t make it a safety issue. You bought a vehicle with a glass roof designed to shade opaque when commanded. It does that, you just don’t like how it does that.

Some customers Rivian would be better off without. The glass is behaving exactly as it is suppose to. There is basically a film (laminated into the glass) that reacts to electrical current and change opacity. You want this film to be slightly frosted even when off, so in the event of failure the roof would still retain some ability to block the sun.

There was never any communication suggesting the glass is clear when not activated. If you are convinced Rivian did you wrong, prove it: Find evidence that they sold you clear glass when the feature is turned off. Your personal [and false] assumptions are not grounds for legal action (or a recall).

Look at this example, found in just a few seconds of Googling. You might want to "recall" this nothingburger thread.

OP don’t listen to everyone else here. Skip waiting for a recall and just go straight for a lemon law!

Your title should really be 'I don't like the Dynamic roof'. There is no recall, there is nothing really about this. I have the traditional glass and it is somewhat tinted but let's in plenty of heat, as do most sunroofs. Don't forget this vehicle has a large windshield and plenty of other open glass areas that allow all sorts of heat and UV into the cabin.

Rivian made it quite clear the 7 day return policy was dead a few months ago.

I would prefer not to buy something without seeing it in person.

To cap it all the OP had the cheap pre March pricing and got in just before the cut off next month and still complains about a feature the majority of pre order holders could never even have.

I believe you are the only gen 2 owners with the new roof who has posted on the forum. I have yet to see a build on the shop including the new roof. I prefer the normal one tho as this new one is just a gimmick. Had it in my iX and it became a check this out every time I had a new passenger in the vehicle
I actually loved it in my iX and I felt a significant improvement in cabin temperature when I used it during the day in the Phoenix heat...
Anyway... the iX in general was 150X better than the Rivian
I'd probably still have it if I didn't need a truck...

Meanwhile, I completely blocked out our glass roof because it's hot AF this summer in Colorado, and I'd prefer my kids nap on long drives without the solar system's brightest flashlight throwing all of it's photons at their faces.

I have a Gen 2 R1S with dynamic glass and it behaves exactly like I thought it would based on the small amount of information I found online before choosing a car from the shop with it. When turned on, it’s opaque enough that you can stare at the sun through it, and when turned off it is transparent enough to see everything but with a milky tint. Would I rather it be perfectly clear when off? Sure, but I knew what to expect.

The dynamic roof glass was one of a couple really cool new features that I was bummed to have missed out on with my Gen 1 R1S. But I was also under the same misimpression as OP that the dynamic transition would begin in a state of fully transparent clarity and only end in frosty obscurity, rather than this semi-translucent initial phase that OP (and that short form video) describe. So I'm not going to rag on OP for a little bit of a click-bait title, as the thread makes me feel a little better about my Gen 1 since I personally do enjoy the clear view the static Gen 1 roof affords. :)
