Saturday Errands turned into Hit & Run

Tailgaters are THE worst, most inconsiderate and threatening SOB’s on the road, IMHO. There is rarely a good reason to drive like this. It’s just plain rude and dangerous! Whether by ignorance or design, this is not acceptable behavior. People should have more respect for their fellow drivers. But, I guess that‘s just the nature of the world we live in, today. Many of these types of drivers get behind the wheel and think they can bully their way along and behave in a way they likely never would in a face to face interaction. It’s kind of like how the anonymity of the internet empowers wanna be bullies. It’s sad ? Other tailgaters are just clueless people who lack ANY empathy for the fellow drivers they are threatening. Sorry for the rant. Glad you survived your scary moment.

Just grabbed the drive from the body shop and it looks like nothing recorded from July onwards . I only have up to June.. I think maybe when I did the OTA it shut off the drive cam? There's folders for every day in July but they're all empty. Oh well.. Still waiting to hear back from the body shop on the damage

I noticed recently my recording had also stopped and I didn't know, I assume after a software update. Fortunately I noticed before I needed the footage.

UPDATE! A witness submitted a photo of the car to the police department and the officer was able to track him down. Initially he lied and said he didn't hit me but after the police dept got some photos of the car from me they determined he was at fault and the guy finally turned over his insurance info so the police could add it to their report. Turns out he has multiple judgements against him already.

The parts are ordered as of this morning. Need 3 wheels, 2 tires, both side flender flare trims and front bumper lower trim. No paint work or body work. Just over $7100!! Hopefully those parts aren't backordered

That's wonderful that someone out there captured a picture of the culprit and turned it in! I sure hope the culprit has insurance, but the type of person that does a hit-and-run is also the type of person to not carry liability insurance. Best of luck!

Don't want to burst your bubble, but my deer collision was estimated at $5200 and now is at $33,000.00 and still waiting for completion after 3 months. Hopefully your outcome is better. Parts are slow from Rivian.

I was rear ended in April. Initial estimate on photos only came at 1700, total came to 6200.

Took about 9 weeks to repair including some back and forth with the insurance company.

Most of that 7100 will be in the wheels and tires, so I imagine it won't be too bad.

The body shop ordered based on taking the car apart and the $7100 was off the insurance adjuster physically inspecting the car too. He’s done a few Rivians now so I’m hoping he knew what to look out for and he knows that it’ll need all new OEM parts. They’ve driven the car with a spare too so I don’t think there’s any suspension issues that the noted but I guess we will see when they get the wheels in

I learned from my process that Rivian will not sell new repair parts to non -certified Rivian shops. Also, the labor cost per hour is higher on a Rivian than other vehicles and insurance does not want to pay for the higher labor rates.

Getting all parts through Rivian Certified Body shop and the Geico adjuster already wrote them the check for all new parts. So hopefully Rivian doesn't hold up for wheels, tires and trim. They haven't ordered anything else per the estimate.

Another reason I run an external dashcam (front 4k / rear 1080p) with both my Tesla and Rivian. Redundancy when it REALLY matters.

Another tip I learned is to inquire about Rivian specific labor rates and what insurance is willing to pay. Make sure the shop talks to the insurance about the final agreed upon rates before starting repairs. Our Rivian certified shop charges almost double the normal rate for non-EV cars, and insurance is not willing to pay it.

Sucks. You swerving makes you at fault here. If you would’ve just let him hit into you or would’ve been his fault and a real hit and run.
