this has been an issue for Gen 1 from the beginning. The system not working below 20mph at all is even more frustrating and dangerous since there is a greater likelihood of a motorcycle, bicycle or car in your blind spot. Use your turn signals to view the camera.R1S - Gen 1
The driver view display (front display) only shows cars from the front camera. When a car in a neighboring lane moves outside the field of view, the display no longer shows it. Is this an issue for others as well?
Here is the major problem:
If a car is in the next lane, and behind me, the blind spot alert lights up, both on the mirror and the driver display. Unfortunately there is a distance gap between when the front camera can no longer see a car (when it disappears from the display) and the blind spot warning light activates.
If I am passing a car, it will disappear from the view when we are nearly parallel. When the car is parallel or slightly behind, there is no blind spot warning. Only when I have nearly passed the other car does the warning appear.
If a car is passing me, the blind spot warning is triggered and stays on until the car is nearly parallel. There is then a smaller gap from when the warning goes away and the other car shows up on the display.
To me it is a major safety issue, where the driver may have a false sense of safety. I was hoping the latest update would fix it.
Happened to me just yesterday on I-94.If you signal, the blind spot warning will detect that vehicle you talk about. Otherwise the warnings you talk about above (without signaling) work exactly as designed.
Use the mirrors properly…boom..no safety issues.R1S - Gen 1

No issue here for me.R1S - Gen 1

I agree 100%!Use the mirrors properly…boom..no safety issues.
You are EXACTLY correct, sir. In a performance driving school I attended years ago, this was one of the first things discussed…mirror placement. The side cameras are a fun gimmick, but it’s silly to have to activate the turn signal to use it..I agree 100%!
In my experience, people tend to adjust their mirrors so they can see the sides of their car. Hey, I know where the side of my darn car is. What I need to see is that portion of the lane next to me that I don’t see with my main rear view mirror or my peripheral vision/quick side glance. I adjust the side mirrors out so that I can see the adjacent lane in the mirror ( isn’t that the main concern)and see another car, right up to the point where that car is coming into my peripheral vision zone. On the rare occasion that I actually do need to see the side of my car, I can just lean my head a bit. My previous car was a Toyota FJ. Everybody complained about the FJ blind spots. I call operator error. With properly adjusted mirrors, I never had any issue with blind spots on the FJ.
I guess I’m old school. I have a very, very hard time relying on all these cameras, especially for backing up into tight places. But, I’m trying. Give me some good mirrors ?You are EXACTLY correct, sir. In a performance driving school I attended years ago, this was one of the first things discussed…mirror placement.
