Blind spot warning does not detect cars that are parallel and not visible in the side view mirrors.

The driver view display (front display) only shows cars from the front camera. When a car in a neighboring lane moves outside the field of view, the display no longer shows it. Is this an issue for others as well?

Here is the major problem:

If a car is in the next lane, and behind me, the blind spot alert lights up, both on the mirror and the driver display. Unfortunately there is a distance gap between when the front camera can no longer see a car (when it disappears from the display) and the blind spot warning light activates.

If I am passing a car, it will disappear from the view when we are nearly parallel. When the car is parallel or slightly behind, there is no blind spot warning. Only when I have nearly passed the other car does the warning appear.

If a car is passing me, the blind spot warning is triggered and stays on until the car is nearly parallel. There is then a smaller gap from when the warning goes away and the other car shows up on the display.

To me it is a major safety issue, where the driver may have a false sense of safety. I was hoping the latest update would fix it.
this has been an issue for Gen 1 from the beginning. The system not working below 20mph at all is even more frustrating and dangerous since there is a greater likelihood of a motorcycle, bicycle or car in your blind spot. Use your turn signals to view the camera.

Additionally the R1S is not the easiest to see out of using your head and mirrors. The C pillar is quite large. The blind spot cameras were sorely needed but I’d like to see the driver display blind spot be better

If you signal, the blind spot warning will detect that vehicle you talk about. Otherwise the warnings you talk about above (without signaling) work exactly as designed.
Happened to me just yesterday on I-94.
Was tired and did not turn my head to the left to see the car parallel with me.
As soon as I turned on the left indicator both audio and visual warnings told me there is a car.
Excellent safety feature. Exactly the opposite of "Major safety issue"

Use the mirrors properly…boom..no safety issues.

I do wish the car/truck emojis (is that the right term) shown on the currently useless (because they only display what you are already seeing) animation of traffic included an image of a car when one is detected in your blind spot, regardless of turn signal operation. This would at least alert folks visually to be more careful even before taking action.

All of these are additive safety devices. You still need to be situationally aware and responsible by sweeping your view across all of them, including turning your head. The extra safety features don't remove that responsibility; just make it more effective. Not a single one of them should be expected to provide full situational awareness.

I would just prefer to have the driver display show vehicles behind and next to me, instead of what's in front. It doesn't take a camera or radar to tell me what my eyes can see in front of me.

No issue here for me.

When a car is overtaking you in the parallel lane, the blind spot monitor will engage until the vehicle is no longer in your blind spot. When you are overtaking a car in a parallel lane, the behavior is different, I assume because you can see the car…

Either way, with the visual warnings, audible warnings, mirrors, blind spot cameras, and slight turn of the head, I feel safe.

No one should rely on that driver display animation for anything other than identifying zombies and witches during Halloween. It's run off a single camera in the windshield, and isn't intended to be a real-time blindspot indicator or anything of the sort. I sometimes find it helpful as a way to tell where my front wheels are pointing when I start up the car, and whether my brake lights are illuminating when I decelerate after lightening my pedal push, but that's about it.

I agree 100%!

In my experience, people tend to adjust their mirrors so they can see the sides of their car. Hey, I know where the side of my darn car is. What I need to see is that portion of the lane next to me that I don’t see with my main rear view mirror or my peripheral vision/quick side glance. I adjust the side mirrors out so that I can see the adjacent lane in the mirror ( isn’t that the main concern) and see another car, right up to the point where that car is coming into my peripheral vision zone. On the rare occasion that I actually do need to see the side of my car, I can just lean my head a bit. My previous car was a Toyota FJ. Everybody complained about the FJ blind spots. I call operator error. With properly adjusted mirrors, I never had any issue with blind spots on the FJ.

You are EXACTLY correct, sir. In a performance driving school I attended years ago, this was one of the first things discussed…mirror placement. The side cameras are a fun gimmick, but it’s silly to have to activate the turn signal to use it..

I guess I’m old school. I have a very, very hard time relying on all these cameras, especially for backing up into tight places. But, I’m trying. Give me some good mirrors ?
