R1S bricked in my driveway

Went out to charge the car this morning and noticed some odd behavior. The passenger door handles were out and the driver side wouldn’t open. Phone didn’t seem to do anything so I tried the physical key. Again nothing. I tried opening the charge port door and it opens like halfway, not enough to charge.

I called Rivian and tried all the reset option’s and none work. I’m guessing it’s a dead 12v battery. Super frustrating and they said the next service center appointment is 10/26 lol. Obviously they are going to bump me ahead but I won’t know more until tomorrow morning since they are closed on Sundays. Fun times.

I had the same thing happen, back in January. It was the 12v. I tried everything from rebooting to jumpstarting. Nothing worked. They sent a mobile tech who swapped out the 12v in 15 minutes and it's been perfect ever since. Can you try to call the SC and see if they can send a mobile tech sooner? All the best.

some lights come on is a positive. Your 12v is still very low and probably needs to be replace. Did you try to press the button on the charger door or on the screen itself? Do you have a multimeter to measure the voltage?

I tried on the screen and on the door itself. The screen button was actually greyed out. I do not have a multimeter. I think I just need to get mobile service over here ASAP to change out the battery. Hopefully that’s all this is.

I guess while you wait for them, you can try to trickle charge it if you have a battery tender and see if you can revive it. I never had 12V issues with both of my rivians but my model 3 died at a shopping center a few years ago. It totally sucks !!

Your 12v battery is likely less than 3 years old. This is pretty poor lifespan. I am guessing you have two batteries vs. one lead acid batt and a capacitor.

you will have an appointment within the next 2 or 3 days. They might even send a mobile tech and if not, they will come pick it up and leave you a vehicle.

So service center sent a tow truck because they could let me into the nearest service center today, and mobile would take a couple weeks unless they had cancels. I’m hoping I get this thing back tomorrow and it’s just a battery swap.

Oddly, the tow truck jumped the R1S battery using his truck battery and it basically got the R1S back to normal. I even charged it a bit and then we drove it onto the tow bed. I will say his battery was huge.

I’ll keep you posted on where we shake out.

Look up instructions (its in the manual) how to access the jumper leads from the rear hitch area - you can connect jumper cables or a charger to it to at least power the vehicle and get the charge door open.

Yeah, I did that…posted in this thread.

Update…the car is ready to be picked up at the service center. They swapped the battery and gave my Lyft credit to go pick it up. On my way!
