I read what you wrote. Believe it or not there are alternatives to your rigid and narrow views. Those who respond are not required to stay in your comfort zone to keep you feeling safe. Remember you replied to me, not the other way around. If you don’t want to read my response (whatever that might be), then go ahead and put me on ignore or don’t quote me.

If an extended warranty pays for repairs after warranty what is the difference whether it came from the factory or not?

Maybe the forum would benefit from less of your non-stop whining? ??‍♂
You must be a hoot at parties. You’re always in the right! Lol

Never said that (ever). But please continue complaining about the fact that other people might have opinions that are different than yours.

Sorry for all the troubles @OP. Indeed, very frustrating!

On the flip side of your experience:

I just got my truck back from the Richmond SC, it took them 5 days to look at it, but then completed PTC replacement and suspension washer fix and state safety inspection in one day. Was lucky I got Gen1 R1S for a loaner which they also allowed me to keep 5 days after the completion of my work since I was out of town. Had a great experience with Tony there, great communication throughout the process. People do make all the difference.

As a future new owner (R1S ordered), reports like this are really discouraging. I don't mind an issue or two with a new vehicle, but not getting repair work done quickly and correctly is disheartening.
I am really considering cancelling my order and eating the $3 grand deposite.

You were right again! You’re good!
Nothing to be “right” about. I seriously want you to feel better. Life must be awfully tough if you need to quote people who were not even interacting with you, then whine about them having an opinion different than your own :like:

I do think this forum has room to grow compared to other car enthusiast communities I’ve been a part of.

Members will always come here to research, especially owners with issues. Inevitably, many of those owners will come off as venting and overly frustrated. It’s the reality of their situation and people need to empathize with that or at the very least understand it.

All that aside, that’s where the value starts to come. Other owners experiencing the same issues? Is it a common issue? What are the solutions?

This happens in every community but the Rivian community is the only one where you will regularly see comments attacking OPs and telling them to sell their Rivian.

Is that why Rivian depreciation is so high??? And how is that good for the brand?

I agree. These trucks are really cool. But you have a few Rivian apologists here who go after OPs with an issue.

We don’t need trolls. And we don’t need gripes about little things. But there are some serious issues that people are posting about. I do not see this in my other forums.

I said the brands offer it. Factory warranty. Rivian does not offer an extended warranty.

The forum could really benefit if you took some time to actually read what you are responding too. It’s getting old.
Now you are just making an effort to be contrary and argumentative. It was valid and helpful to point out that there are extended warranties, whether Rivian or otherwise.

Sorry, @Hereforthesnacks , the self appointed moderator, claims that posts like this is not helpful. ;)

But seriously, thanks for the information, it shows that not all SC are the same, and that can help people make informed decisions.

For those who are talking about the dealership vs direct delivery model, I'd point to the fact that a few years from now the service centers will stop being a cost sink for Rivian as vehicles start to fall out of warranty (yes, I know this terrifies some people) and not almost every visit is sunk cost. Rivian as an organization will most definitely want to be the first choice for service as the vehicle population matures and they desperately need to get better. They will not be the only choice however and they'll have to improve because there will be competition for out-of-warranty work as the population of EVs grows.

My own experience is not just two camps of dealer vs manufacturer. The third camp of independent shops apart from the dealer/manufacturer exist. Traditionally dealers in my locale exist as a more available, more expensive option for people who want service quickly or who want the white glove treatment. Independent shops are often more technically adept than dealers and can find cheaper or better fixes for problems. My own experience suggests a dealer has no incentive whatsoever to keep your costs down and simply replaces parts until the problem stops being a problem. I've caught dealers trying to tell me I needed a new radiator because a cap was leaking. Paying for new brakes and rotors that didn't fix anything. Sitting on a vehicle with warranty work for a week, lying about having completed it when returning it to me and refusing to do anything further.

While I know there's a litany of stories of dishonest mechanics, that extends to basically every privately owned enterprise including dealers. Don't necessarily convince yourself the grass is greener there.

Dissatisfaction with service quality in general seems to be more a labor-related trend of technicians in a shrinking labor pool being trained mostly to replace parts rather than to thoroughly diagnose a problem, because the former is faster and easier. Competent technicians are difficult to get and to keep, which makes rapid expansion much more difficult than just standing up new buildings.

Rivian owners are presently a captive audience because of warranties and yes, the wait times alone will see droves of people going elsewhere once other options exist. Some things only Rivian may be equipped to do, but suspension work and brakes won't be it.

I suppose it's also worth mentioning that Rivian's service centers are presently being clogged with fixing nuisance problems under warranty and they're suffering from some self-inflicted organizational problems by trying to be too centralized. From what I've gotten from reading and talking to people, individual service centers have no control over appointments assigned to them. There is nobody there who can look at the backlog and tell customers their vehicles are going to sit for two weeks even after they waited a month to drop off. They don't seem to have a handle on their work because they don't control how much they can accept. Despite appearances mobile service people spend most of their time fixing rattles and the like. It really makes me wonder what the actual service footprint would look like if they caught more of this stuff at the factory.

Haha. I may be a little argumentative here. I’ll give you.

I’ve had my R1T for 2.5 years and have 52k on the clock. I live in upstate NY. Service has been sooo PAINFUL that I am going to scuttle my plan to get a Gen 2. Like the original poster, the R1T is the perfect truck for me and it makes me sad not to be able to have one as my next vehicle.

I actually appreciate the rant, as it contributes to the wide range of opinions and views on this forum. Not all are Rivian fanboys and stockholders. It is informative and at the very least, lowers expectations for those who take on some risk of being beta users of products of this new company.
