I don't use my fob, but every time I reach for it - battery is dead. 4 batteries in 1 year.
They had to put a fresh battery in when I took delivery.
Has the firmware ever updated?

Mine used to be like that and one of the OTAs had a firmware update that fixed it. I usually do not use mine but take it to the carwash. Bring it into the car and check the update screen, see if it recognizes the fob and offers an update.

It would be great if Rivian offered an upgraded fob with a rechargeable battery so the fob can be placed on the built-in charging pad or any other Qi-compatible charger to top off the battery. Our Land Rover’s fob has a rechargeable battery which gets charged when the key is in the ignition (I feel like a Luddite typing that) and the vehicle is on.
Agreed, thought that many times, regarding the Qi charger.
Mine still going strong from March delivery FWIW

Interesting that some cars have a hidden key in the FOB. I don't believe either of mine do (VW and Toyota) but I've never checked. I will also be getting a wristband when they are available (and I get my truck).
They almost certainly do, from my experience with VW and Toyota.

Yeah. Don’t use it. Graduate to 2024 technology and use your phone.
Gotta disagree. I'm team FOB.
Mine is perfect, and I dropped phone proximity ASAP.
No battery issues here, sorry to hear others' troubles.

FWIW, I had to get a new fob back in April ( that’s another story). The fob is my daily key. Don’t leave home without it. It is still going strong 6 months later. Pretty sure it will crap out this next week, now that I have mentioned its durability ? I’m perplexed why some people don’t carry the card as a backup, regardless of what their primary key is. I’m assuming most people have some sort of wallet with them.

Wait, the key FOB's firmware can be updated? That's pretty slick AF.

Let me try this out. Fresh battery going in - I'll report back in 3-4 months if it's dead again from just sitting there.

The truck did not prompt me for any updates. Any way to "force" a re-check? Google turned up nada

Hilarious, I am in a loaner and the battery died on me @14k miles.

Good thing I had a spare since loaners don't get other keys or mobile.

I use FOB only, everyday. Have never changed the battery (but believe I will need to very soon). March ‘23 delivery.

Despite some members apparently knowing what key is best for me to use, this is the perfect setup for me. No PAAK ever. It’s actually 22nd century tech - no need to be glued to your phone 24x7.
