Just wanted to mention I traded in my R1T for a Wrangler 4xe Rubicon yesterday.
The Jeep 4xe has about a 30 mile all battery (17kWh pack) range and a 340mi ICE range. It's got 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque with actual real lockers front and rear. That 30 mil battery range should suite me fine for probably 95% off my driving (I work from home). The dealer gave me $60K on the Rivian trade-in which in NY goes 100% to the pre-tax value of the new vehicle, so I actually will end up about $1,900 ahead once I file my taxes and get the $3,750 Fed tax credit early next year.

Jeep is trying to clear out 2024 models right now, so they have crazy incentives. The Rubicon was $71K, but with incentives it knocked $10K off so it was $61K before the $3,750 fed tax credit.

When trading it in, I forgot to give them the camp speaker as I replaced it with a draw a couple months back, I also forgot to give them the bag for the tonneau cover panels, I kept the NACS-J1772 adapter I just received two weeks ago, and I also kept the wristband because that did not come with my R1T. I guess I'll sell the NACS adapter as the Jeep only has level 2 charging.

I was a pre March price increase customer, after the fed tax credit I took in 2023, my R1T cost $68K, I had it for almost two full years and got $60K for it on the trade in, I consider that pretty decent.

I have both of these vehicles, but I went the opposite way! Jeep first, Rivian second.

The jeep is pretty awesome if you don't mind a rough ride. They are easy to drive, easy to park/fit in tight spots and obviously extremely capable offroad. The ability to take the top off is nice. Also being able to upgrade /change components like legos is awesome. I equipped mine with a moderate 1.5" lift and SDI E-Click adapative suspension. It now rides about as good as a Jeep can, which is to say it's much better than a Tacoma, but still worse than the Rivian or a Raptor. You can't have everything though!

The AWD mode in the 4XE is also a huge plus in the winter time or slick conditions.

That being said they are not problem free. Be sure to keep your alignment in spec, tires rotated and all your steering/suspension joints tight and to spec. Death wobble is not a fun experience and can/will happen if anything gets out of whack.

The locker sensor can also be problematic (it fills up with gear oil and gives bad position readout), but they have revised that for the newer models. They also seem to need the battery coolant pump replaced frequently and have had several recalls concerning the battery fires. Luckily you picked up a 2024 which is apparently clear of this issue. I am hoping that this model year they have finally been dialed in and won't have any major issues going forward.

I'm actually pretty excited for the 4XE gladiator coming out. To have the daily electric option, extra power when needed, ability to fill up with gas, regen braking and a truck bed will be the ideal setup for me.

Since I've purchased my Rivian though, I have hardly driven the Jeep. Unless I'm going somewhere super sketchy/tight offroad I'd honestly prefer to drive the Rivian in all cases.

Man I am sorry to see this but as long as your happy with the decision that is all that matters. Any reason why you decided get rid of your T?

As a side note you did pretty well on trade considering the current market for used vehicles....especially EVs because everyone seems to be afraid of taking them on trade.

The only concern I have for you is stellantis products in general are having a horrible demand problem. I would be concerned about how long you plan to keep it. The cost (difference in price paid vs trade value) of that wrangler 4Xe will likely be much much higher if market conditions hold.

My opinion here...nowhere near as much fun as the Rivian...but...it is a competent machine.

Care to share some background? What was the problem with the Rivian? Did you have a lot of issues with it?

Best wishes with your new Jeep. One of my sons has the very same one, even the same color. I have driven his. It's a nice truck, but a little rough riding for me.

I can't imagine going from one of best and fastest driving Trucks on the road to one of the objectively worst handling vehicles for daily driving (and I have nothing against jeeps or BOF 4 wheelers - I drive a 70s Land Cruiser too).

I assume you had problems with the Rivian?

Just a PSA, do not charge the battery until this recall is performed, it may have already been done but I’m not sure the fix has started yet.

been a Jeep owner for 20 years. still have my jeep, still love jeeps. I, however, could never imagine trading in the Rivian for a Jeep as a daily driver, nor could I imagine ever valuing a Jeep that's only one year newer at the same price as the Rivian.

I assume you had problems with the Rivian?

I just got back from Hawaii, where I rented a Wrangler Sahara. It was a little "squirrely" at highway speeds (especially with the soft top and some strong cross-winds on the island), but I would say it is 10x better driving than my R1T. It was refreshing driving a vehicle that didn't sound or feel like the suspension is going to fall to pieces constantly. I just can't come to terms with how awful the R1T suspension is, and Rivian service's complete inability to fix it.

And I know I have a low bar of expectation if I think a Wrangler handles well. I just can't go back to an ICE vehicle after owning both a Tesla and a Rivian now. Jeep 4xe and back to gas stations and oil changes? No thank you.

We have three JL's and love them all. Not to mention...knock on wood....ours have all been flawless basically. And when the few things we had done were needed....the dealer got me in within days....and repaired same day or next....and not items that were affecting driveability.

Dealers all vary(like Rivian service centers)....but if you have a good one....they can be really good!

My wife and I just sold our early 2024 4xe Rubicon to get into our R1T. My wife loves Wranglers, but the 4xe was a miserable experience for us. Hit with everyone one of the recalls in the last year and a half, on top of a lot of other issues. I hope yours is more reliable than ours was. I like plug-in hybirds almost as much as an full EV, but I think we got a bad one (but not bad enough to qualify for lemon laws). I really hope yours is better than ours was, Jeeps can be a lot of fun.

It wasn't an easy decision to make, and I knew right off the bat that the Rubicon wouldn't ride like the R1T, but for me that's not a problem. I grew up driving pickup trucks and CJ's and this one drives way better then any of the old ones I grew up with

let's look at my driving patterns this way... I had my R1T for almost 2 full years... I only put 4,100 miles on it, so it's really just a local driver to go to Home Depot, or Costco, etc. It's not like I'm commuting 100miles every work day, I work from home.. my "commute" is from the kitchen up to my office, about a 15 second commute.

A very short list of personal turn-offs on the R1T.. this is just personal stuff for my particular situation:
- The R1T is not "NY parking spot friendly", it's very difficult to fit the large R1T in to our tight, crowded parking spot here. It's also too long for most sedan sized spots, so it's always sticking out into the lane which is a bit scary.
- Vampire Drain is just something that really bothers me (as someone with a degree in automotive engineering). I just can not fathom how Rivian can continue to claim to be a "green" company but then turn a blind eye to this wasteful issue with owners complaining about it constantly. They have moved on to Gen 2 design now and are trying to bring the R2 (which I still have a reservation for) to market as quickly as possible, so I think they are done with the R1 system and Vampire drain. It will just be a known cost of ownership thing.
- Crazy high repair pricing on body work just because it's an EV. Something as simple as a small dent in the rear quarter panel (which is by far the most common hit we seem to get in the R1T) can cost upwards of $25,000 to repair, which to me is just nuts!
- Crazy high glass (windshield and roof glass) replacement costs, and I'm always super concerned when washing the R1T that the cold hose water will crack the roof or windshield even though i always "mist" both down to cool them off prior to washing.


Luckily I never needed any service on my R1T, it was flawless from day one.
