Added a new navigation maneuver panel in the top left.
  • Improved the energy graph and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) carousel panels.
  • Added a new phone and media panel to the carousel.
This sounds interesting, especially the energy graph. Hopefully the baseline is based on the efficiency your truck is actually expected to get to meet the rated range and not the arbitrary 2mi/kwh that it currently is. Would also be nice to see the graph based on distance and not on time.

Will also be nice to have a permanent media display since I find myself driving around with the suspension screen up most of the time.
TIDAL now includes Dolby Atmos!
Also pretty nice. Apple Music kinda sucks, but the Atmos tracks are neat. Maybe I should try Tidal again since it seems Spotify will never release a hifi version.
  • When the driver and passengers exit the vehicle, the vehicle now starts to sleep within 5 seconds even if an unoccupied passenger seat belt is still fastened.
I bolded this because am actually kind of afraid of this one resetting the suspension and drive mode after every single drive instead of every 4 hours. I am definitely going to be holding off on being an early adopter for this version.

Apple Music
  • Improved the general stability of the app.
  • Improved audio playback resume behavior when you return to the vehicle.
Seems like they "improve the general stability" every release and it still really sucks. Maybe they got it this time though.

Overall, I am glad to see the pace of updates continue somewhat rapidly. I can stomach bugs in the name of progress as long as they don't regress and introduce more things that make the vehicle worse like the auto suspension reset.

Connect+ doesn't need to be justified by any added features. It was never promised at all in the first place as a free benefit of owning a Rivian.
If they want people to pay for a subscription, it should come with some nice features. Not everyone finds the value is there for what's currently offered for their asking price.

Then don't subscribe? Easy solution for that right? Wait it out till you see value. Let free market play. If subscriptions don't meet Rivian expectations maybe they add features to make it more attractive for those that don't find it attractive.

I'd pay for it just for the satellite image on the map. I think it looks cool.

Also, it’s unlimited data over a cell network. For about 12$ per month. For me, I’m not sure anything else needs to be in that subscription.

Was expecting Google cast feature in this release. And some updates on the Autonomous driving features.
Should be coming soon (where have I heard that before). It was working in the 2024.27.xx beta version, but was very glitchy. Then it disappeared, but was back in 2024.39.xx beta, with full functioning youtube. Connecting to phones and casting seemed a lot smoother and didn't crash like previous versions. This was in my neighbors test vehicle. Rivian needs it to work flawlessly when it is released, so I'm okay waiting a little longer to make this happen. We don't need more negative press from another botched software release.

Also, I am told Rivian now has two separate software teams, one for gen 1 and the other for gen2 architecture. Because of the differences, they could no longer keep the development together. This makes the process even harder to get things right before a major release of OTAs.

It’s nearly time to trick or treat,
And here you’ll find something neat.
Near Hallow’s eve when the moon is clear,
Spooky settings will soon appear!
Hmm, the next full moon is Oct 17.
So that update will have to come out pretty darn soon.

Also, where in Hades is Google Cast?!?!

Rivian needs it to work flawlessly when it is released...
Did they switch to this philosophy after releasing the Apple Music app? :CWL: Sorry, I just couldn’t resist.

Also, I am told Rivian now has two separate software teams, one for gen 1 and the other for gen2 architecture. Because of the differences, they could no longer keep the development together. This makes the process even harder to get things right before a major release of OTAs.
I wonder if the introduction of R2/R3 will fragment development even further. My hope is that they will effectively be gen2 architecture, but there are enough differences that it may not be the case:
  • Traditional spring and shock absorber suspensions so different drive mode controls
  • Different display sizes
  • Frameless windows on R3 (probably requires glass to drop when opening a door and then raise to reseal once the door is closed)
  • Different openings to control (rear flip out windows and roll-down tailgate window on R2, glass-only versus entire hatch on R3)

If they end up having do develop for gen1, gen2, gen2.2 (R2), and gen2.3 (R3) then I can see there being serious resource challenges in the future. If not planned for properly then an easy answer is to reduce or eliminate development for gen1 since they aren’t selling new ones. I don’t think that’s a smart long-term solution but a lot of executives only think about the next quarter. I think RJ isn’t one of them, so hopefully none of this becomes a real problem.

Yes, that seems to be the point. You said it doesn't need extra features to be worthy of the subscription price, but not everyone feels that way. There was previously no assessment of value since many of these services used to be free. Nobody asked for suggestions on whether they should subscribe or not.

Exactly. $12 to keep my kids iPads tethered and a few minutes of peace and quiet. Take my money!

FWIW, I will probably keep the subscription myself just so I don't have to tether my phone or mount it to the dash to utilize my music apps. I listen to music constantly in my vehicles and it's a pretty nice convenience having them integrated with unlimited data, plus I don't have an unlimited data plan on my phone, so that's kind of a sunk cost for streaming. If I drove in silence I'd probably feel differently. I do wish the apps had feature parity closer to the phone/desktop apps and were more reliable though.

That's fair.....I guess I understood that even features I had when I bought the truck might become pay for features later. At least when I bought mine that was super clear in the terms, but maybe that isn't case anymore.

Bit I get the point....some will want alot more to justify the $150 a year...

I guess another 2 to 3 years of software updates for Gen 1 ,then They will stop updating Gen 1.

This should eliminate about 50% of the threads on "why didn't my vehicle go to sleep?" haha. ?
