Let all those FS buyers enjoy their CT. I'll buy one from them after it depreciates 40% in a year or so! ?
Rivian depreciation is brutal. I looked into a lightly used R1T for exactly the same reason you did, and the number of <20k mile quad larges for <$60k is striking. Even today, I know that going for a new car is financially nuts when there are such good deals used. I think you made a really good call doing what you did.

It is official... effective this evening, anyone can go onto the Tesla website and buy a (non-foundation series) CyberTruck with an estimated delivery of October - November. The 2 million reservations translated into fewer than 50,000 sales.
1. $80K for the AWD wasn't something that I signed up for back in 2019
2. The CT that I test drove had warning signs. I really didn't think this car was ready
3. After being early adopter of the Model 3, I've learned my lesson that it's better to wait a bit longer

OK, that's the trigger to get my $100 pre-order fee from 2021 back :)

If Tesla sent me a non-FS invite literally 3 days earlier than they did, I probably wouldn't be here today. But I dislike how even now the specs are changing/slipping. That huge $16k-extra range extender that's supposed to get the CT to "470+ miles of range?" It's now 415 miles. Like, less than a stock Dual Max.

I'm glad I took a pass on the CT and went for an R1T Tri instead.
lol same here. I had two reservations. I placed FS order but needed the truck asap. Tesla's timelines and communications are so inconsistent. It's like riding a worst roller coaster. When you call them, they don't answer even after 3 hours. For a company that can catch rockets in mid-air, they don't have a simple customer call-back mechanism. Such a shame. I can connect to a Rivian agent in literally 2 mins. My second CT reservation was early this year. After I purchased R1T, they sent non-FS invites to everyone. I consider all this as a blessing in disguise. I love my R1T to the heart now. I'm glad I bailed on CT. Where are all those people who said you won't get a CT for at least 2-3 years? CT might be good, but their way of doing business has pissed me off.

If, if Tesla had stuck to their original CT pricing, or even launched at prices somewhat close to those original prices... it could have been a huge hit. But when the first CT's produced are $125K... that's a long way away from $39,990
Agreed, a lot of us were saying from the beginning that the huge waitlist was a combination of it only being a $100 buy in and the base price starting at 40k. Speculation was that the actual base would be closer to 80k and way out of the price range for the bulk of the wait listed people and here we are, well under 100k vehicles delivered and an exhausted queue.

I will admit that I was thinking a 10% or 15% percent conversion rate so I’m pretty surprised it is under 5%.

Depreciation does not seem that bad to me.

My R1S sticker was 79k, I’m coming up on 2 years owning it and I see similar vehicles out there in the 65k-67k range so it dropped about 12k-14k (14%-18%) and that is not counting my $7500 tax credit which really makes the depreciation 4.5k - 6.5k.

Seems pretty much in a normal depreciation range for a vehicle north of 75k.

Just stick the kids in the gear tunnel and let them figure it out? :)
lol! Exactly! They are climbing all over the place using the gear tunnel foot board. Apparently it can withstand 400 lbs. They are coming up with all kind of obstacle course to race through from one side to another - through the tunnel, over the bed frame, around the truck. At one point someone said raise the suspension height to max so that they can run one obstacle course from underneath as well! Ummm no! ?

I'll admit this also played an outsized role in my selecting an R1T over a CT. My kids can't reach over the side into the bed on any truck. But from the rear seat, my 11yo daughter can hit the gear tunnel release button, hop onto the door, and grab something from the bed. Or just use the door as a jump-off point to easily avoid puddles.

You certainly realize that is misleading and disingenuine? Rhetorical.

Single motor vs Tri motor (Foundation Series [not shown below] with all options included: FSD, Powershare install, etc)

So... Other than range, price and payload they're spot on.

(BTW, the bed range extender is maximum kludge.

The CT should still outsell the R1T for the foreseeable future...if that means anything....

Q3 number according to KBB, CT sold 16,692 units, more than Lightning, R1T, Hummer and GMC EV trucks combined . Outsold R1T by more than 5:1. R1T sales are down by 9 %. I think CT is cannibalizing R1T as both are targeting affluent “non working “ truck market. I test drove a CT, and came away very impressed. Rides smoother and so much more maneuverable than R1T. CT will likely continue to outsell R1T by more than 5 folds with sub $ 80k, especially if $7500 tax credit applies. The problem is that affluent “lifestyle “ truck market is not that big. I think Rivian is in trouble.

Let's see what the sustainable buying rate of the CT is now that all the pre-order folks have been worked through, then revisit your statement above.
