I sent Rivian this recommendation:

Close the door handles when proximity is off at home. Just like it closes during car wash mode. In addition it would be nice that once someone approaches and actually opens any of the doors the door handles will all open up automatically as to not make it difficult for passengers to open the handle manually as that could be a hassle. The benefits are 2 that I could think of:

- People can hurt themselves when walking by w/ hitting the edge of the handles, snagging their clothes on the open door handles or anything they're carrying. Think tight car garage or even in driveway.

- It'll appear to be closed to others when it's actually open .

That would be perfect!

One note, The vehicle WILL ACTUALLY wake itself when you're nearby with your cellphone.

If you track it on https://electrafi.com/index.php you'll see it'll go from Sleep to Idle, minutes later (sometimes it might take an hour in my case!) it will go back to sleep.

I'm working in a testing procedure to share here in order to track multiple things and I know for a fact that any PaaK device nearby the truck will wake it (had to disable my wife's key... That was a conversation...) :)

There is a setting where you can tell it to unlock all door or just unlock the driver's door. If you have it set to unlock just the driver's door, then that means you DON'T WANT the passenger doors to unlock automatically - this may be the case if, for example, you frequently drive alone at night and park in the city or some place that's not safe - you want to be able to get into or out of your car without someone else being able to get in one of the other doors.

This isn't true of all vehicles. My PaaK is close enough to get the 'Connected' status, but Turd is fast asleep...

Not following how this is relevant to the lock and unlock recommendation for at home.

I did not see this posted and some have experienced your vehicle unlocking itself or waking up multiple times. I hope this helps!

TLDR - Use carwash mode. You have to turn it on each time you come home.

If Rivian allowed the handles to be flush and unlocked (like carwash mode) everyone would complain about how hard they are to open and compare the handles to those on Teslas. The Rivians were not designed for this, and it would take a handle re-design in my opinion to make it work.

Do you actually monitor this through the electrafi.com website? I'd be curious to see the datalog :)

I use Home Assistant, which taps the same API as electrafi.

What data would you like to see?

I'll draft a generally post as I'm interested to see people's trucks/suv behavior with certain specific settings. I'll tag you on it (probably tomorrow) when I write it ??
