I ordered an R1S a few months ago using the configurator on the Rivian website. I checked the order status a few days ago, and it looks like the order has changed since I placed it. I didn't change it. I don't even think I can change it. The configuration now has Chilewich floor mats even though I selected black mats when I placed the order.

Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know why this happened?

I really want the black mats, and I'm not sure what to do now.

The all-weather mats can be ordered from the Gear Shop.

Does that affect orders make when black mats were an option? Are they just going to not honor the configuration I made when I placed my order?

They probably don't have any or stopped getting them. It happens. I don't think floor mats should be a deciding factor in buying a car or not.

This sort of thing happens all the time with pre-orders. While they could probably have handled the communication differently, it's not uncommon to see features disappear or change with the launch of a new vehicle (for all practical purposes, the Gen2 R1s are "new").

It would, those of us early adopters had our configurations changed several times before we took deliveries. Some changes we applauded, some we were not so happy with.

Not uncommon though as available options do change, most people in the past did not order vehicles but shopped from available stock on a dealer lot or in a specific region.

I factory ordered my Tesla in 2016, that was when they made the change to the nose of the car. I ordered with the old nose and huge frunk, what was delivered was the new nose and small cubby frunk. I ordered a Mini Cooper from the factory, they changed the wheels and floor mats on my build as they were no longer available.

Both times my option was take delivery or back out, I took delivery.

If they've run out of the part, yes, and the same goes for any other manufacturer. Floor mats should be super easy to pick up off ebay or facebook marketplace though.

I thought this was going to be something like 'they changed me from a QM to a DM or changed my wheels'.

Floormats ... if that's the worst thing that happens to you ...

Thanks all. This won't make me turn down the delivery, but I don't understand why I placed an order for exactly what I wanted if they're just going to give me what they have. I could have picked one off the store in that case.

Many of us experienced this with the light wood in the Ocean Coast interior during the preorder days. I had to switch to the black interior. Now I have a new R1S ordered with the slate blue interior that has the same wood as the wood I wanted initially. The dash wood was far bigger of an issue but they couldn't get the light wood up to quality standards or couldn't get it or whatever reason.

Aww, man, I wanted the Chilewhich mats but I had to buy from the shop (voucher) and they weren’t available!

OP, I get upset by little things like that too—but we are all going to make fun of you anyway. I mean, different wheels are one thing….
