I must admit that spending $108K on a truck was nerve-racking. Reading through these forums gives the impression that this vehicle and company are half-baked products at best. I have owned BMWs, Land Rovers, a Martin, Hondas, and Toyotas, and all I can say is that after my delivery yesterday, they are all in the dust compared to my buying experience, driving experience, and the delivery of my R1T Tri.

  • Audio: Holy crap, even without using Lossless, the audio experience was miles ahead of that in my premium BMW M series and Land Rover. As an audiophile who uses reference speakers daily, I can say I'm happy.
  • Build Quality: Amazing.
  • Feel: Hell yeah, it feels like a 100+ truck. My Land Rover NEVER felt like this, even when it wasn't in the shop every three weeks.
  • Ride Quality: The ride quality is SO much better compared to Tesla. Honestly, my Tesla Model 3 feels like a Kia compared to this thing.
  • While Tesla is great with acceleration, it struggled in the snow, even with snow tires, despite fiddling with all the regen settings. I thought I was going to DIE even going uphill. After 8 years of owning an AWD Tesla, no snow mode WTF . The ride was rough and felt plastic all the way around.
I am not sure why there is constant negativity towards this product. I would take the Rivian over a Land Rover or Toyota any day. If BMW made a truck, yeah, I’d buy that. As for service, we will see, but it won't compare to the bills I racked up with a Land Rover, which was constantly plagued with "Yes, that Land Rover is well known for [insert some basic feature constantly breaking] that will be fixed in the next model."

So far, Rivian has exceeded my experience as a buyer and given me confidence as a stock owner. Compared to my early Telsa experience, this is night and day. If you're looking to buy, go for it. I went from WTH, do I need a 100K truck for - to holy crap, this is awesome in one day.
Congrats! Truck looks awesome!

I’m about to pick up an tri motor and have been seeing a few posts about the range being off on the displayed range from what’s on the website. I know the actual usable range will vary, but my gen 1 QM has at least reflected the stated ranges on the display. How’s yours looking?

My guess is it is lower than online advertising because I’m in thick of winter right now.

Congratulations. I picked up my R1T Tri on Friday the 15th, drove it from SLC to Sun Valley (used conserve mode) and I can say that it is the best vehicle I have ever owned. My only concern is winter driving since I have the 22"'s but that appears to be an easy fix with some alternate tires. I will say that I was able to hold a 2.0 efficiency and did not need to charge once during that drive. I actually did not use the audio very much as I wanted to hear the truck. Although not an audio expert it seemed great.

Are you saying you needed to use concrete mode to *hold* at an efficiency of 2.0m/kwh efficiency? If so, that's worrying as our Gen1 quad used to regularly get ~2.4m/kwh @ ~75mph between stl and Chicago.

Love everything you said, except for the audio. My two rivians have awful audio. By far one of the worst I've ever owned. I really hope Rivian can get this fixed for gen3 and forward.

I'll clarify. I was 'easily' able to hold above 2.0 for the 15 minute intervals. I would guess I averaged about 2.25. Also, the elevation gains/losses on my route vs. STL/CHI is significant and would most likely be the reason for the lower score.

something is very wrong with the audio (Ascend Tri Max). have the premium audio and literally the only driving sounds are coming from very front..sounds weak, no base, and over weighted

2.25 average over your route seems ok with gain/loss (and assuming ~75mph). ~2 had be scared :)

Audio is so subjective that I simply nod whenever an audiophile says anything. You only know its a problem when you get the "I'm not an expert, but I think something is wrong". Or when someone says "I rebooted the truck and it fixed it".

Ride quality is also a bit subjective. I do feel like my R1T ride quality is significantly better than it was when new, and it seems to have improved even with a different brand of tires.

The negativity towards Rivian seems to come down to known issues.

The service wait times and the 12VDC battery woes are the notable ones.

The SW is another area in which Rivian struggles with bugs. Although Rivian did do SW well enough to get 5+ billion from VW. I guess VW really does have a thing for Bugs.

In a way Rivian is like a Land Rover where there is love for the product, but also a desire for that product to simply not have the issues it has.

Rivian does have much better branding. There are Land Rovers and Range Rovers, but a Range Rover is a Land Rover.

A Rivian is just a Rivan.

I just took delivery of a RT Tri Max on Friday in Normal and the range numbers were the same numbers on the display that you had. The delivery team were as surprised as I was and had no explsnstion. The service manger dropped by and he had no explanation as well. I drove 200 miles back home and charged to 100% and the same range numbers showed up. I have done a hard reset and the numbers are still 346 all purpose and 395 conserve. The Tri max is advertised as 371 and 405 respectively. Will we see the numbers tick up over time or with a SW update? I hope so. The additional was one if the reasons I upgrade from my 22 RT Quad. which had 315 all purpose range.
