IMO I always have separate set of smaller 1 inch less diameter winter wheels and tires for my cars and SUVs including my Audi and BMW. I am confident that the 21s Michelins MS2 will be really good in the snow and ice and I wont have to switch to winters but its snowing soon here so I will experiment with it in my subdivision without anyone else around.

My physics 101 professor let a toy car roll down a tilted table. It rolled straight and true. Then he used a rubber band to to lock the plastic rear wheels that easily slid on the table--the car slid off kilter. Then he locked up the front wheels and it slid true again. Counter intuitive for sure.
With little to no drag on the rear wheels and the front wheels sticking and rolling, there is force on the front of the car from the surface to the wheels to make the wheels turn, putting the car in an unstable orientation like an inverted pendulum (if it's initially moving forward with momentum or facing downhill). With all wheels equally skidding, the car will travel with whatever its initial conditions are.

We can disagree without insulting each other, everybody.

Best wishes!
It stings a bit because I am a boomer. However living in MN and Steamboat I have a lot of experience, some very scary, on bad roads. It is worth knowing what's what ;-)

I have those on order, should be in this week.

I have 21” OEM - would it be fine to go to Tahoe and back? No off roading or trails… just pure road…

Also does anyone have suggestions for snow cables?

Has any one tried Michelin defender LTX M/S2 on snow?

I use defender series on Audi Q5 and they work great.

It is good to know that rapid regen modulation is possible, if you remember, do report back.
Tested it out today albeit with some of the snow and ice melted and limited space to work with, but based on just regen braking and friction brakes (no turning etc.) I thought it performed as well as the Tesla; which again in my experience/opinion is very good. The heaviness of both vehicles is disconcerting if you do begin to slide.

I just switched out to the Michelin M/S2 today. They are rated much better in snow/ice. I still have 10K of life on the OEM Pirellis, I am keeping them in the garage until April when I will put them back on and run out the rest of their life...then back to the Michelins next winter. This plan should give me two winters of very fresh tread on the Michelins. All I can say so far is that the Michelins are noticeably better in ride and noise level.

Worst attribute of the car. They really need to FIX this! That along with the weight is a big problem in the snow and ice!

EVs are heavy! They did nix the 21s for the 2nd generation.

My first R1T was a Launch Edition with 20” AT’s. The first half of the first winter Rivian had not yet released “Snow Mode” and living at 7,000 feet with winter snow and ice it was a white knuckler to drive. The release of snow mode made it a real pleasure to drive. My second R1T is a DM with 21” all season tires. While no off roading I had no problems with this past winter’s snow and ice. But it is a very heavy vehicle and you must pay very close attention to that when the roads are difficult.
