I am not advocating for CarPlay but the addition of chromecast seems a bit hypocritical. The anti-CarPlay rationale was that Rivian wanted to control the experience but now the driver is controlling the experience. but I guess Rivian would say they control the ‘driving’ experience and the driver controls the ‘parking’ experience.
I am happy to have cast and indifferent on CarPlay but it seems like a pro-Google anti-Apple stance.

Airplay only works with Apple devices. Hypocritical decision by Apple for sure.

Rivian uses Google's Android Automotive OS as the foundation for its software. Everything they do is built on top of that so it makes sense they would leverage an Android feature for their casting capabilities.
Wonder why they went with Alexa vs Google then for the interface? My wife's Volvo has Google and it works WAY better than Alexa on the Rivian.

AirPlay targets are not exclusive to Apple devices. There are many smart tvs (LG for example) and receivers (Denon) that you can stream audio and video to.

The crux of the issue is licensing. Apple would need to allow, and Rivian to pay, for this license. There may be some code already that would help, but perhaps Rivian would need to write it.
Given that this is an Auto use-case, it’s possible that Apple would not want to license in this way and push for CarPlay

I bet it’s one or a mix of licensing cost, ease with their Google Automotive underpinnings, and/or they did casting first due to those things and Airplay is next. But I bet there’s a cost factor and not an Apple permission thing. That would play into Alexa as well. With the Amazon vehicle deal, they may get Alexa free. Maybe Amazon wanted Alexa in the vans so then it’s right there on the shelf for everything else?

These things usually aren’t an evil plan. ?

Right, but you still need the initiating device to be an Apple product. Casting works on every device, and seamlessly at that. I’ve been exclusively Apple for my mobile devices since the original iPhone - about 18 years now - and AirPlay has never, ever worked reliably on any device I’ve had. Casting almost never fails.

Not true. I can Airplay natively to my Samsung TV. Not a ton of vendors support it, but it is not Apple only.

Totally agree. Seems utterly asinine to create & now maintain such an issue. A simple Google search suggests that over 57% of us Americans own an iPhone, which given that Rivian has sold about 100K vehicles, equates to 57,000 of us owners unable to watch any of the 1000’s of Movies & TV shows available through Apple TV, or any broadcasters & studio’s apps that many of us have on our iPhones at this minute. As someone who works in the media & entertainment industry, it is particularly galling that my livelihood is being undermined by their support for YouTube & lack of provision for any official media. YouTube is synonymous with extremely badly ripped off copyrighted media, with very little original & high quality entertainment. Would they be happy if someone badly cloned their vehicle & sold it on YouTube?

The anti Apple stance many automakers are taking isn't due to some grand conspiracy it is all a result of Apple's closed ecosystem, usage policies and licensing terms. It's Apple's own doing so if anything you should be complaining to Apple to making barriers to entry so difficult.

Native AppleTV app is made for some Android-based smart TVs (e.g., Samsung QLED and Sony) and WebOS (LG). There is no reason Rivian cannot put native AppleTV or YouTubeTV, along with Disney+ and Hulu. Also I don't. understand why Rivian left out Netflix., which is available in just about every OS, including Tesla.

If Rivian really wants higher Connect+ adoption rate, they need to offer more intrinsic value by adding features such as these....

Hmm. hypocritical? ??‍♂Lots of SAMSUNG and LG TVs, and other Roid based, Windows, and many other non-Apple OS based devices support AirPlay.
