I like the CT looks but I think that ultimately the price to specs ratio is too high. The tech under the skin is great but regular buyer couldn't care less. Price needs to come down and it's reliability needs to improve.

Rivian looking at R1T sales
Tesla's current market cap = 100 Rivians (whose market cap is also too high, IMHO). Consensus view is $1.99 EPS for 2024 which means a P/E of 190 at current price. At $1.4 Trillion in valuation, Tesla has an exceptionally higher valuation than even crazy Nvidia (a mere 54 multiple) not to mention laggards like Apple (40) and Alphabet (25).

We will have to see if Tesla can grow into it's multiple. With vehicle sales down 1%, that may be tough

Everything is fine. This was the plan all along - make a truck so ugly and terrible that when you reveal the real truck after a year, expectations are much lower.
That would be something. Hold on, I think I have a picture of it.

I’ve looked at Tesla stock since I bought my Model S in 2016 and was never able to justify the purchase because the P/E has always been so high.

The CT sales issues are not about price. My guess it is two things: Elon and the looks. Plenty of people have stated they don't want to be associated with him. Not to mention how many people think the CT looks like a dumpster on crappy wheels.
Well the delivery numbers do not support Elon equals no Tesla. Tesla delivered recored number of vehicles in a single quarter for the 4th quarter:

Tesla Fourth Quarter 2024 Production, Deliveries & Deployments
BUSINESS WIRE

AUSTIN, Texas, January 2, 2025 – In the fourth quarter, we produced approximately 459,000 vehicles, delivered over 495,000 vehicles and deployed 11.0 GWh of energy storage products – a record for both deliveries and deployments.
Thank you to all of our customers, employees, suppliers, shareholders and supporters who helped us achieve these results.

The looks is arguably correct. Although here in SoCal, we see more CTs than X and certainly more than R1T where we are. We do see more R1S though... I'm sure that the rest of the country is not this way.

...think of what if, if you thad bought it, right?

There's more to stock than P/E ratio, in terms of investment criteria.

I did buy Tesla shortly after their IPO and have bought and sold multiple times. Currently do own both $TSLA and $RIVN and you can imagine which one has done me better, right?

I had a day 1 reservation for my Rivian (2018) and a year later same day reservation for the Cybertruck. We’re on our 2nd R1T now. I finally got my wife to come with me to test drive a Cybertruck a couple of months ago. While I admire Tesla for much of what they are doing and some amazing engineering. The Cybertruck for me is a lot of tech & features poorly executed. Go ahead and make excuses, but the visibility is awful and yes, I really don’t care about FSD which has been promised for what feels like a decade. My wife thought the interior materials were on par with a $20k car, maybe less because I think a $25k Civic has better materials. Battery, again I’ll wait for the excuses, but it’s too small for a large, heavy, expensive truck. Telsa has stated a goals of selling >150k Cybertrucks a year. Get a Dual motor down to $50k and this may be possible, time will tell.

Not arguing that point, I left money on the table for sure.

That being said if the clock rolled back I’m pretty sure without the benefit of foresight I would make the same decisions again. Tesla stock trades like a meme stock, really hard to guess when it comes closer to true value, just not a stock I felt comfortable investing in.

Rivian I only invested in because an IPO is one of the few times the company really benefits from the stock purchase and I wanted my R1S. I used the funds from the price rollback to get the IPO shares and then used the fall in value to average down.

Yah, this site has a few loud mouthed petty narrow minded individuals. Very disappointing.

I'm hoping the CT does well. I don't like the petty digs at its looks (why do people care so much about what someone else likes?), and if it fails, it's going to be SO much harder for anyone else, Tesla or otherwise, to stick their necks out for new and potentially game-changing ideas. Strong steel skin/structure, steer by wire, 48v electronics, rigid core high voltage wiring, etherloop comms. There's so much to admire under hood that it's a shame people love to hate on its design.

I can buy a vehicle despite the looks, if it's better. CT isn't for me. To each their own.

The only thing good about CT is that you won't get door dings. IMO, my R1T with 2 fairly large dents(courtesy of wife) looks better than a pristine CT.
