Well, it helps when you have a commitment from one of the largest companies in the world to purchase 100k of them!
I was thinking the same thing. I would like to see if any have been sold to other companies besides Amazon.

Hope to see more partnerships announced soon, it's a perfect vehicle for last mile delivery.
And Amazon is said to have deployed only 20k out of that 100k commitment. Yet another fact the worry worts ignore when they start "Rivian won't survive" threads every single quarter. Ignorance breeds fear and some people are just willfully ignorant. Facts are readily available with just a few clicks/taps for anyone with an internet connection.

True but Amazon can very well decide not to go through with the 100k purchase just like they requested to slow down the rate of EDV deliveries. Their the largest shareholder and commitment or not things can change on a moments notice especially with this new administration coming in and EV incentives about to get obliterated.

But have you seen substantiated reports they are considering such move? Or is it just more speculation?

Have you seen official explanation of that request? Ever look into cost of installing chargers for a residence? extrapolate from that and imagine having to install 20~40 per site. I don't know of any [surviving] business that is in a hurry to burn through cash. Not to mention the red tape necessary for construction to even begin.

Of course it’s speculation. Not saying it will happen just saying it very well could. I definitely agree on your points about the costs it takes to install those chargers. Amazon put a pause on deliveries during a time where their earnings were taking a hit. Recently they’ve been on fire especially with the new semi conductor chips they’re working on. I think deliveries will probably pick up over the next couple years.

IIRC, official statement from Amazon: the pause was to deal with high volume of packages/deliveries running up to and during the holidays. And per Rivian, as far as they are concerned, every Amazon van that rolls off the assembly line is considered delivered. It's Amazon's responsibility to take them out of Rivian's lot.

Who said Amazon is getting any federal incentives to buy those vans? If they buy them because they need them as equipment, an administration hostile to EVs is irrelevant to Amazon's purchase. There's no indication the incoming administration will harm Amazon, so they have no reason to scale back.

EDIT: I should have read the rest of the thread.

True there’s nothing I’ve read with concrete evidence but I wouldn’t be surprised if the previous administration incentivized companies like Amazon to go electric. Just look what they did to normal Americans im willing to bet companies got some form of kickback. That’s all I’m saying pure opinion. Let’s face it if they did incentivize companies like Amazon would we really have heard about it?

Businesses don't need incentives to buy equipment. It's a CAPEX, and I'm sure the payback was calculated based on reduced shipping costs. The EVs have a lower operating cost than diesel trucks, especially in places like here with 10 cents per kWh power. So Amazon is buying them because someone figured out that over the EDV's projected lifespan, they would be cheaper than gas vehicles.

Not to mention all the driver tracking metrics, ergonomic features, and GPS/cameras included in the EDVs. This reduces injuries and accidents throughout the Amazon fleet, lowering their vehicles' operating costs. Remember, Amazon's business is logistics, not sales, so anything that can lower the cost per package delivered makes Amazon more money. This thinking is taught in business school, so I'd be surprised if a company the size of Amazon wasn't using it.

Very strong points well said. I definitely agree on the benefits you mentioned these vehicles offer Amazon. They have people working there much smarter than you and me so I’m sure they wouldn’t aimlessly throw money away on an EV endeavor such as this one now would they? ?
