I will go counter to what a lot of folks here say about just sending the money early. I did that on an R1S purchase, but I ended up not taking the car. I was told that they would refund me in 4-6 weeks. Its now been 4 months and no one will call me back and its impossible to contact someone directly that's not their basic customer support. IF I ever decided to get another Rivian they will not see a dime more than the deposit from me before delivery day.

I’ve posted elsewhere about them totally botching my state registration and me finally saying, I’ll register it myself. All good, but Rivian sat on the $6k refund of the sales/property tax I paid them for over two months. “You must overnight checks to us, but we’ll pay you next season, if we feel like it.” I was finally able to get the refund to move along with daily phone calls to the main 888-RIVIAN-1 phone number. I stopped waiting for calls back because they didn’t come.

I can only imagine how much more of a cash flow issue waiting for a full vehicle refund would cause you.

I have started with the daily calls last week, I hope it gets me somewhere soon.

I feel weird sharing/reposting this, because emails are easy to dismiss. However, I've seen multiple insiders say to email [email protected] when you have to escalate issues. So there it is. Something additional to try.

While I doubt there is any nefarious intent to taking that long to return money it is still unacceptable to wait that long for a refund.

I brought a cashiers check in. That way, I could inspect the car before delivery.

They'll let you reverse a wire/ACH and still refuse delivery, but it was just easier for me to do it manually.

If you use a check, you'll need to take a photo of it and submit it in the app a couple of days before delivery.
THIS! Bring a check!

The problem is that once your wire the money the power dynamic is tilted too far from you. Remember you aren’t going to see the vehicle you purchased until pick up day. It’s very possible there will be something wrong. You need to keep the option of walking away open.

Yes Rivian will refund your payment but it takes 6-8 weeks. They apparently used to do this faster but as of 8 months ago they hold on to your money for a while. This also means you can’t buy another Rivian unless you have another deposit laying around.

The big issue with bringing a check to the delivery appointment is that Rivian requires payment 24 hours before the delivery appointment in some states (Kansas being one of them). This is likely for states where they don’t have auto dealer licenses. For Kansas, purchases are legally handled out of Illinois using their dealer license there. I’m guessing the policy is the same for any state where they do not have a dealer’s license.

Something they’ll need to address before the mass market R2/R3/R3X hits the street.

Hey all.

After years of waiting/hesitating, I've pulled the trigger on a 2025 Max Pack DM R1T! This'll eliminate two vehicles for me, a daily driver and a towing vehicle. Taking delivery this Thursday. Quite excited!

This will be the first vehicle that I buy where I have the option to not bring a cheque in and can use ACSS Debit/Stripe or Wire Transfer so I have a few questions.

What happens if I to send the money through one of these options and something happens at delivery and I refuse it?

Do most people still prefer to bring a cheque in?

What's been folks' experience?

Thanks.
Welcome to Rivian world! No issues in wire transfer. If there is a delivery issue, like you find an issue, Rivian will take care of things.
