Well finally getting to my maiden trip report with the GFC! First, I want to give a shout out to all the folks @Team_GFC ... such an awesome group of people and a pleasure to work with!!!

So the trip was a total of 1500 miles, taking the scenic route from Bozeman back to CO - efficiency was 1.72 mi/kWh vs my current lifetime of 2.0 over 22.5k miles. Not quite the 8-10% they are touting, but I chalk that up to the colder temps and the fact that I don't drive slow.

I only got 5 nights in the camper, but so far I'm absolutely loving it as it's a complete game-changer for my lifestyle - especially since the camper is improving with every lil add on! Temps were in the mid to low 20s every night and I was comfy with good bags + usage of an electric blanket for the first few hours - and NO condensation (even w/o the headliner, which is coming). Not sure how much bedding I'll be able to keep in the closed tent tho (probably just my summer bag) - the roof and siderails seemed to flex in my attempts.

Anyway... LOVE this GFC and super stoked for all the future adventures with it!!! ❤

TL;DR: GFC campers are fucking awesome... if you're thinking about one, GET ONE!!! ?

Love that you camped in Taylor Fork. At some point bring an e-MTB or similar and explore oil well and little wapiti trails. See any moose?

Can someone measure from the floor of the truck bed to the internal bottom of the GFC bed platform? I want to know if I'll still be able to throw my MTB in the bed with the tailgate pad.

39 inches.

You can either just leave the rear panel open on its gas struts, or take it off temporarily.

It won't hurt to leave it open on the gas struts, correct? Would it be smart to design some sort of lockout so that there isn't a risk it bangs down on the bikes?

Sounds like a great trip! They told me not to keep any bedding in the camper. I think the beef bars probably reduced range a decent bit further than just the camper which I believe is how they were testing it. I added mine when I got home and would likely remove them for any long trip.

coming back to this. Is 39 in with the bed platform in place? Is it possible to gain more height by removing the platform if necessary? My bike is about 40.5in with the dropper all the way at the bottom.

You could remove parts of the form-a-floor to get that extra inch and a half

Just did it in my driveway
Looks like max added is 44.5”

Just keep in mind the tent material would be awkwardly flapping inside/ might get caught up on handlebars

Anybody know if there is a show room to see how this looks like in person? Or perhaps somebody in california willing to show it?

Other question I have is -
If I decide this isn't for me, do you guys think its easy to resell + remove and install on another vehicle? Or does it have to go through the GFC team?
Anybody use GFC before? Whats your overall take on it?

@Burton06 You are welcome to check mine out down in the South Bay. It doesn’t seem unreasonably difficult to swap it to another vehicle. I know Stellar in Sacramento will eventually be doing installs, so I assume they could also support transferring between vehicles if needed.

If you make it down to OC I'm more than happy to show you my set up.

The Rivian GFC is one you should really try to see in person, there are a lot of little Rivian specific tweaks the GFC team made for the R1T.

Regarding transfer, the GFC uses the factory tie in points and is very much a "no-drill" reversible accessory.
Your best bet at resale would likely be here or the official GFC forum as the product is specifically tailored to the dimensions of the R1T.

They have partner shops that can offer assistance switching vehicles/ reinstalling, you'll want to check their website for their partner locations.

I have seen folks move these types of campers successfully with a combination of engine hoists, roof top tent pulley systems, and jacks on dimensional lumber, kinda depends on how many years of red neck engineering you've done and your individual risk tolerance.

I have no reason to remove mine right now (and don't plan on taking it off often), but my plan is to build some saw horses and carefully lift the camper up on to some 2x4's or 2x6's. My hope is if the truck is in the highest off-road setting, and I build the sawhorses to the right height, that I can then set the truck to lowest and just drive out with the camper resting on the sawhorses.

Should work in theory without having to find four+ friends to lift it off!
