I mostly agree with you here but would caution Rivian to work on their communications.

These forums show up when searching Rivian online, they are also frequently referenced by online car reviewers and bloggers.

It is not a stretch to think that the negativity on these forums could hurt sales and investor excitement ultimately negatively impacting the company.
I hear ya. I can't even keep up with these forums anymore, but EV-related blogs/sites might get some additional eyeballs. I don't think ot will be enough to affect the market in a material way.

Now, Hindenberg on the other hand...

Is this another ā€œtorches and pitchforksā€ thread?
Sure seems like it. Maybe it's just me and my skeptical nature, but there are billions at stake here; for RIvian, potential investors, potential short-sellers and Rivian's competitors. I'd take a lot posts here in the next few weeks with MASSIVE grains of salt.

Is there any reason it shouldn't be one? This is troubling. Not in the "why do I have to wait for my truck" sense but "they've strayed pretty far into straight up dishonesty" sense.

I hear you, I’m probably taking a break from the forums after the IPO next week.

Just scanning threads now, virtually every thread has the same noise in it and not getting any value from them. Just wasting my time scanning them at this point. When I first joined I got some good info but nothing of real value lately.

That being said, kudos to Rivian on the partner they picked for the DSP. They truly under promised and over delivered. Got the email yesterday from Rivian, said we would hear from the partner in the next 48 hours. 12 hours later had the account created and linked to my bank. Dare I say there are lessons that can be learned here….

Me initially (even with a few grains of salt taken): Expletives

My Lady (and often voice of reason): Cool, so we will have time to save up a maximum down payment or possibly even enough to pay for it outright?!? You're right, that would be horrible. ?

Thank you for posting this. Easy decision to not risk investing in the IPO. May I ask your rough order number based on the logic that’s been widely accepted on the forum? Really disappointing
7k-ish, for whatever it means.

Everyone understands mistakes, miscalculation and missed deadlines. Most cannot be as forgiving when it comes lack of communication. This is true is any sphere of personal or professional life. Rivian it’s time to step up.

I would have put him on the spot. When did he find out about the delay? Just last week he told you that you were still on schedule for Oct. Something changed in the last few days to push it forward 4 months?
He told me he found out today. I was the first call he made.

Well, at least he's doing what he can for you.

My guess, after a few minutes of annoyed contemplation, is that they're giving everyone a "by the end of February" date and that they'll hope to beat that in individual instances. Unless he said this was specific to you, it seems probable that this new talking point came down today and applies broadly.

I’m curious as to your opinion: do you think your preorder is higher priority than the employees who built the car itself over the past 10 years? And that paying employees should not be given their cars so that someone who reserved after them, like yourself, could?
Nope. I didn’t think I was complaining that employees are getting their cars first. Just stating a fact. I am actually happy for them. If I have to wait, so be it. It was actually partially a joke. I understand there are supply chain issues. I couldn’t get Italian seasoning this weekend at the grocery because it was out along with many other typical pantry items. I should have put a ;) after my statement as to not set people off, but since I have....

Yes, I believe employees are customers!
Yes, I am OK with them getting their cars first!
And finally, yes, I am OK with delays, especially during a once in a hundred year pandemic!

Godfodder, what is your order number? Seems like not just a small delay but a massive one. Very surprising.
It's around 7k,but I have been told repeatedly that I am one of the earliest pre-order holders. Not sure either really matters, though.

What I’m not sure I understand is that it has been said (and I’m sorry I can’t remember where I saw it but definitely remember it because it struck me as odd), but they said their chip was not the chip that the other manufacturers were waiting on, and that it was manufactured by another company that was not facing the constrains. unless it’s lithium which is the culprit which I guess could make sense and thinking about it now RJ did mention that awhile ago. but gosh, he pushed through it and still mentioned numbers in the S1 that still gave us hope and sadly it’s getting dashed to bits, just really hard to take Right now sorry my friends.
It did seem purposeful that he said "supply chain" and not "microchip".

One of the employees that received their truck recently only ordered in June of this year based on posts on their IG. I would say that anyone who ordered in June 2021 should not be first priority, emp or not.
I don’t know, if I was CEO of a new car brand that was launching their first ever product with no precedence or reputation behind them yet, I would definitely give first production deliveries to my employees so I can work any kinks out with them before giving them to outsider customers. It’s just a smart move.

I guess that’s why I’m glad RJ is running Rivian and making those same decisions ?

Agreed. I have been largely ignoring these forums for over a month and don’t feel like I’m really missing much at all.
