I totally disagree with, "this isn't the place to discuss climate change".

EVs don't have to be purchased ONLY to "save the planet" -- but the first wave of buyers (Us) are undeniably more concerned with the climate than the general public. I don't think any vitriol needs to be included in the discussion, but this is a natural place to discuss the topic as long as it's reasonable.

In a normal world, court orders stopping unconstitutional executive orders would be the end of the story. That’s a normal world. Mr. Orange seems to have enough willing accomplices in Congress to allow him to simply ignore court orders and implement his wishes. It remains to be seen if Congresscritters can find their collective spine to stop the theft of their separate, equal powers. Congress has the power of the purse, not the Executive Branch, as we all learned in civics class or Schoolhouse Rock. If Mr. Orange starts ignoring court orders, and no one stops him, we’ll have our answer.

Previous administration ignored court orders as well (student loans, remember ?). It is not unique to this administration.

Right, I was against VENI from the beginning - this was a huge money laundering initiative.. After 3 years only 8 chargers were installed. 3 of them already not working. Average price - 0.58c per kwh. 4.5billion appropriated.

Tesla installed more than 1300 stalls in this period of time. Talking about the efficiency of spending.

There is an additional incentive of $500 “for every 250 pounds of payload capacity in excess of 1,000 pounds,” meaning a vehicle with a payload of 2,500 pounds would qualify for an extra $3,000 rebate. The final incentive structure would give an extra $1,000 for each additional seat in vehicles with seating capacity more than 4. A seven-seat vehicle would qualify for a $3,000 bonus. Both bonus incentives are capped at a collective $5,000, meaning you could have a truck with 3,500 pounds of payload capacity hit the full $7,500, or a seven-seat SUV with at least 2,000 pounds of payload capacity.

So, the work done around the world known as soft diplomacy, will be done by fewer than 300 people, as opposed to the 10,000 that we’re doing the work before?
I suggest that you share this “opinion” with your employer. Perhaps suggest a pay cut for yourself, too?

That's bending the truth a bit. They didn't spend $4.5B on 8 chargers. The point was to get industry input and research locations. Not the most efficient but don't spread FUD.

I do not think that founding minority programs in Burma is soft diplomacy and wise spending of my tax $. Also, I do not think that this money should be used to fund media outlets. You may thing differently. I am sure the real "soft diplomacy" programs will continue.

It’s called “following the law”. What they did in canceling almost $50 billion in student loans, was legal. A simple google search would’ve enlightened you, but you chose fake news instead.

My point was that we, who bought heavy trucks that have a carbon footprint much more than any small ICE car during car live, who spend money on trucks that use Chinese batteries that used slaves in Africa to source minerals, have a moral ground to say we save the planet. We enjoy our trucks, and it is ok, but let's not pretend that we bought them to save the planet.

Yep, they found a way to work around the supreme court to give our tax dollars for free. Despite the court that said that congress needed to approve it. But they found the loop hole. This does not make it kosher in my view.

With that logic, we should cancel all of the military spending and fold up their tents, because of the ridiculous cost overruns and defense contractors’ demands. Right? Throw the baby out with the bath water. And when Russia and China rush into places like Burma and Africa to fill the void we’re leaving, that soft diplomacy will become a distant memory and a brand new expense at a far greater cost. Penny wise and pound foolish. So yes, I do think differently.

As a side note - 50M for condoms in Gaza seems to be a bit extreme for soft diplomacy IMHO
