I only watched the first 45 seconds, but I can't figure out if they aren't wearing seatbelts because it would spoil the shot OR because the original Scout didn't have them either...

Seems likely due to payload being compromised by the additional weight of the Harvester and gas tank. But yeah, really limits the crowd looking to tow a camper with most between 3500-8000lbs which is seemingly the crowd they're trying to capture??

According to his comments, the Harvester can maintain a "steady state" of charge when driving around 70mph. so assuming 2.2m/kWh the harvester can output around 150kW of power, which is pretty decent.

It's nice that he's excited, but he's giving me vibes like I just walked onto a Nissan car lot ?

I saw another review that explained that the "Harvester" (range extender) option only added 150 miles of range using the onboard fuel tank. Obviously you could carry extra fuel, but that's not a lot without an external gas can.

For most, if they really really want that range, it's easier to carry gas cans than extra batteries or sitting still with a generator.

Watching that, I kept feeling like the CEO was covering things up. Like any time Jay asked for a spec, he chose the model that gave the best result.

So if you wanted a model that can go 500 miles and have a 0-60 in 3-seconds, neither model could do that. If you wanted a model that could tow like an F150, you needed the electric model but he then talked about the towing in the context of the hybrid model.

I'm not saying they will be bad, but I'm saying that CEO is playing fast and loose trying to make things look good.

I don't mind the CEO as much as some others, but I can understand why he'd rub people the wrong way. I think we're all spoiled by RJ and how great he is in that setting.

I don't think they were helped by the test drive and I really don't know why they did it. The test vehicle isn't street legal, it's clearly nothing like what the eventual vehicle will be in driving dynamics or experience. It's effectively one step up from a pusher. They would have been better served IMO just doing a walk-around and sitting inside.

Sounds like it has straight cut gears lol
I couldn't believe no one commented on that sooner. It sounded horrible. And sure it's a prototype, it likely barely holds together and is meant for not much more than being driven on or off a trailer to a display stand, but still... I am SO glad they were only IN the vehicle for a few minutes, it was drilling into my skull

Just watched this. I agree the CEO is a bit annoying but a typical sales guy. Keep in mind RJ and Elon are engineers. ?

Few things that shocked me and just general notes:

1) he mentioned 350kwh charging ?
2) I sure hope the 5,000 lb towing with harvester he mentioned is for the Traveler and not the Terra. If the Terra that’d be a total waste.
3) LFP for harvester models makes sense. I highly doubt they’d still be 800V architecture (or at least not for charging)
4) his laugh is the worst and I think it’s his hairdo that gives off Nissan salesman vibes lol
5) People clamoring about the price, the starting price will likely be a base model with smaller battery, without harvester, standard suspension etc. They also have the backing of VW supply chain so will likely have more success at cost scaling.

I was going to buy two range extended Scouts, but the all-electric range is too low for road trips into the mountains, so I’m switching to the all electric versions. If I used the range extended versions I would be burning gas every weekend—that’s just too much pollution. For most people it’s probably fine, but it also means twice as many charging stops on road trips.

I'm just amazed it actually even moves. Generally prototypes like this are a physical embodiment of vaporware with lipstick on it.

The Scout CEO is a clown and I wanted to just wipe that smirk off his face. So easy for these clueless figureheads to take credit for other people's work. You have one job, and that is to sell the concept and not annoy the sh*t out of people, Scott.

Meanwhile - he's acting like they invented the range extender. Um....BMW and GM (but mostly BMW) beat you to it by over a decade.

What I want to know is did they repeat BMWs mistake in the i3 and did they repurpose an engine from an existing application or did they design something from the ground up that is much more efficient since it can operate in a narrow RPM range and it only needs to act as a generator.

Also - EREVs are NOT hybrids Jay. They are NOT redundant powertrain systems. It is electric propulsion.

I stopped watching 30 seconds in when they were trying to portray these hybrid EVs as "simple vehicles" like what "trucks used to be"

Reminds me of so many other legacy auto execs. Trying to be forward-thinking hip, at the same time not quite convinced BEVs are the future—"but if I say and repeat the words enough I'll believe and so will everyone else". Based on what they've revealed of specs, the cars will drive and feel like big ass body-on-frame trucks and SUVs of "yore", but just with a "new" electrified drivetrain. That, IMO, is only moving the multi-use vehicle needle halfway; i.e. not special enough. But time will tell.

For anyone complaining about "tocking" in the R1T/R1S you need to watch (and listen) to this video and you'll feel much better....
