It’s driving me crazy! Every time we initiate a new session (trip) with the Gen 2 R1T, the rear seat ventilation defaults to OFF, regardless of how it was set upon termination of the prior session. Is this happening to everyone? Why can’t we have a persistent setting or default to ON so that the entire cabin is temperature controlled? It makes an enormous difference when temps are very cold or very hot.

Are the seats occupied? In my R1S it automatically turns on if it senses weight in the back seat.

If you're driving solo, and the front HVAC isn't enough to keep you comfortable I'd say something is wrong with your system. Mine is enough to cook (or freeze) me out

Thanks. We are generally okay. When the temps are below zero or above 90, it does make a difference. Give it a try! Mostly, the dog (65lbs) rides in the back.

Interesting - I can't say I've experienced QUITE to those extremes yet. I got my R1S late enough in the year that the highest temp I saw was 85, and this winter the coldest we've gotten where I live is 14. But I've been fine with HVAC performance in that range, at least

There may also be differences between the R1T and the R1S.

If you are talking about the third row / cargo space (ie behind the second row seat backs) in the R1S, then that happens to us as well. Same issue with dogs. When we forget, they start panting to remind us to turn it back on again. Oh well.

I have an R1T, so aside from poor rover, it’s as if your second row was also defaulting to off. Why not sync it to the front setting? So many little settings that don’t persist, like the rear climate and turning off Auto Ride Height.

This is actually a huge, HUGE problem. I have a three year old son and am expecting a new baby who will be riding in a carseat in back. To be unable to default the back AC to on is a serious safety issue—kids too young to talk are literally set up for an overheating accident every time they get in the car. I will make a point to always always turn it on but the fact that it defaults to OFF with no option to turn it on is link in an accident chain waiting to happen.

Same with my 2026 R1T. I’d like to have more control, since my dog is usually in the back seat and I’d like to get more cool air to him. He’s not big enough to trip the seat sensors, which I assume is the problem.

What I have noticed with my R1T is that when I have a passenger in the back (i.e. seat belt on) the rear AC is on. If my dogs are back there, the AC is off. I haven’t tested but I wonder if buckling a rear seat belt will cause the rear to come on.

Ok, just tested, buckling any rear seat buckle in my 25 R1T causes the rear AC to come on. You do not need to sit in the seat. An easy one to do would be the middle seat and just leave it buckled.

I have the same issue with my Gen2 R1S when my kids sit back there. Have to manually turn it on (they both way 60lbs).. Never had that issue in my Gen1 R1S
