For me, not my job to be the EV police, especially in situations like this. I keep my head low, wait for another stall to open, if necessary. I mind my own business always.

In this day and age, the ods of something like this escalating into a major confrontation and possibly even bodily harm are very high, very real, and all for what!?
Leave him be.

I don't understand why RANs and other charging spots don't also put a second sign plate in red lettering that says something like "EVs while charging only. $150 fine for violations. Towing Enforced". Why just use a carrot when you can use both a carrot and a stick?
True - in a lot of states it is at least a $150 fine to park in an EV stall and not be charging.

They have security at the RAN sites? Nice.
The Lincoln City RAN chargers are located at the back of an outlet mall on Hwy 101, so the security was very likely mall security. Dedicated RAN security would be pretty awesome though. And expensive. And unnecessary. But still pretty awesome.

I vote for this for dedicated RAN security henceforth:

Very sad way to look at the world.

BTW, pepper spray on a door handle can be fun. Just sayin'.

Actually, very pragmatic instead.
Not a matter of being sad, or being happy. It is rather a matter about not giving a damn about things that do not impact me in any way. That outlook in life actually places me in a very relaxed, happy world.

Mind your own damn business!

Yeah, very sad. Also, that is my (our) own damn business.

EV RV, I bet all the letters start looking the same after being on the road for 8 eight hours with screaming kids. Finding parking with an RV or towing is a pain. I'd probably park there too if all the other RV spots were full. Rivians also use the tow spot to charge without a trailer so there's that. How should that interaction go when I show up towing and load up on entitlement? Always good to consider the other's side. After all there were other charging spaces open. If not, I would have asked nicely, "hey the RV spaces have opened. Would you mind moving so I can charge there?" I'm not saying you were mean, just that the smart thing to do is not trigger people to get what you want.

It’s rare that I ever run in to a person ICEing a charger while they’re at their vehicle.

The few times I have, I’ve very politely mentioned that these are for electric vehicles to charge, don’t demand they move (and only even ask if all other stalls are full.)

Today at a RAN, a Sprinter camper van (NOT EV) was parked in the trailer stall. This is at Lincoln City, Oregon, where the trailer stall is at the end of a row of “RVs and vehicles with trailers” extra long parking stalls. Only the end one is RAN, the other RAN are in normal length stalls around a corner.

As I plugged in, a man and small kid approached the Sprinter. Figuring they were leaving. I didn’t bother even mentioning.

A couple minutes later, they got out and started to walk away. So I politely said something. He immediately went “all the other RV spots were full when I arrived:” And he started walking back to his van “I see they’re open now,”

“I get it, lots of people use the RV spots when they’re not supposed to. I’m just letting you know for next time,” and I started to walk away.

He then continued to rant about the parking lot having been full when he arrived, and how I’m using an RV spot. (I wasn’t. I was in one of the short RAN.)

So I calmly explained that they were charging stalls, and the one he was in was for vehicles towing.

He started ranting more; so I decided to disengage.

“You must be an Oregonian!” - officially the strangest “insult” I’ve ever gotten. (Note; yes I am, and this charger is located at least 2.5 hours away from any other state.)

“Uh, better than being whatever asshole state you’re from, I’m just going to head over to security now,”

“Fine, I’ll have ‘em tow you, too!” (I’m not sure why security would tow me,)

Walked away, security office was about 30’ away. Knocked. Guy started yelling something I ignored. Security went and had a 10+ minute chat with him and he left. I waited until Sprinter was gone to head back, thanked the security guy, who replied “yeah, I don’t know what that guy’s problem was.”
Sounds like he was having a bad day. Never know what someone is going through. Could be his wife and/or kids were being testy or it could be he lives in the van. You just never know.

Yep; I want even asking him to move! I was agreeing that parking in this lot can be terrible. I was absolutely commiserating in “parking sucks” mentality when he suddenly shifted from “oops” mode to raging asshole.

People are the worst. Sounds like you handled it better than I would have.

Exactly this post reminded me that I still have some growing(because I would have went off)to do and why I am still in and need therapy. 😩

Parenting classes too. Certainly did not set a good example for his kid (if that IS his kid... van... kid... who knows). /s

Unfortunately that is also very common these days. I think they believe they are less likely to get their teeth knocked out in front of their children so it feels like some are even worse with their kids present. We live on the worst timeline:confused:

It isn’t very often that someone gets lippy with me like that, face to face anyways. I wouldn’t have been quite as nice about it when he started in on the attitude. Good job keeping your cool.
