Just saw this, has anyone ordered one yet? Mine seems to mostly work on my G1, but interesting they now have a $280 retrofit available.

Not worth it. Gen 2 pad widely known to be just OK. Phone can still shift out of position and interrupt charging. Second s00nish’s. It just works.

already reviewed as lackluster, I can highly recommend s00nish charger, it has a much bigger bowl, it's got a wonderful silicone top, you supply the magsafe / magnetic chargers, it plugs into the factory plug, installs in 5 minutes.

Sucks that it's still bad. Seems like if they had to redesign it, that would indicate there was an original manufacturing flaw, which ought to be replaced for free...

Based on appearances all they did was add a raised divider to keep phones from sliding laterally. If they had changed material to something with more grip, it probably would have resulted in a better outcome. Best would have been to redesign the pad to Qi2 and Magsafe standards, which probably would have increased cumulative cost. To me it’s clear they did what they could with hands tied. CAPEX reduction and goal of reaching net positive ruled the day.

The aftermarket ones all run a cable to plug in to another port, right? To me, that is poor design integration when there is already power to the OG pad. For now, sticking with the factory one as it seems to always charge my Pixel even if it is sliding all over the place.

Not the s00nish. It replaces the entire pad native to the Rivian and uses the same plug. It has electronics on it to allow it to convert that plug into what is needed for the off-the-shelf pucks.

The s00nish one is 1000% better than the OEM OG and retrofit versions, as well as cheaper.

They also sit on top of the factory pad so there is no disassembly required, hence the use of one of the USB plugs.

For Gen2, RJ said that had a much better wireless charger and that it would definitely work... Still implies a manufacturing problem.

How complicated could it be for them to have a plastic housing with a magsafe underneath?

I have this charger on my Gen 2, and I had a Soonish aftermarket on my Gen 1. Get the Soonish; it's better, especially if you have a mag safe phone or case.
