Ya, I've had 3 service visits and on the last one they replaced the steering column. I'm not sure how that doesn't fix it? Also, been to the Costa Mesa service center..
Amazing - they are repeating the same mistakes on you that they did on my car. Horrible. Tell them it’s the steering column boot that’s not seated properly and refuse to pick up until the issue is resolved. Don’t drive it off the lot until it’s gone. They can be busy and not even do a drive with you to demonstrate resolution, so take videos to document. It was this among several other issues that convinced me to sell the car. Didn’t want to continue going back there

The other frustrating thing was a mobile service tech came to my home prior to taking it to service (it was actually towed there for a different issue, stuck in turtle mode - another nightmare of a story for another day) and spent probably a solid hour+ turning the steering wheel on my driveway this way and that while the vehicle was stationary, leaving two dark patches of rubber tire marks and dust on my driveway and unevenly wearing the front two tires. He never was able to get close to diagnosing the issue, simply did that to confirm presence of the issue even after I demonstrated it to him on a drive around the block. Further confirmed service overall needs a lot more training and work. Hopefully one day they get around to prioritizing service and making their vehicles a little more reliable.

I had this issue and it took 3 attempts to fix it I insisted they replace the clock spring on attempt 3 which they did via mobile service. They take off the wheel and the clock spring is part of the assembly that hold the turn signal and shifter stalks. They replaced all that and the Noise is gone now.

I've had a similar issue that got fixed when they found a broken clip inside the steering wheel. Took 2 tries. I had to get lucky enough to reproduce it at the service center.

I had the squeaky wheel usually in the mornings when first driving after my R1S sat outside all night. I took it in for a few fit and finish issues sometime fall of 2023 including the squeak and they said they fixed it. I did not have the squeak for a while but eventually it returned. For me it’s intermittent and it’s pretty easy to miss it if there is any level of ambient noise so I just let it go.

I think in my truck its the airbag cover. If I push up on the bottom the air bag cover it seems to temporarily stop the noise when turning. I am so tempted to pop off the air bag cover and investigate.

Mine squeaks only when getting in and out of the truck. Where the telescopic wheel column goes in when I get out of the truck, and come towards me once i get into the truck. They sprayed some sort of lubricant the first time .. seemed to fix for about a year but now it’s back. Anyone know what kind of lube or cleaner they put on that steering column boot cover ?

Can’t tell you, but that was where my squealing was coming from turning the wheel more than 90 degrees. Crazy how many steering wheel squeaks everyone having. Poor QC coming off the line, improvement there would reduce the ridiculous service backlogs.

thanks ! I found a different thread that matches me. It sounds like my steering wheel is passing gas As it moves to and from the dashboard. Seems like living with mineral oil solves it ..
