Hello IRS, Anybody Home?

Just passed 11 months since the IRS got my amended return to collect my tax credit for 2022. I usually would go every month to the "where is my amended return" website and call the number they gave there. A rep would then tell me it's being reviewed in the international office because of something on my return (a small international investment I think). Now, they don't even give you a phone number to call, they refer you to their processing dashboard which is totally useless. Can I sue Elon Musk for a bad debt?

We've been getting the same letter every 90 days for 3 years about a $100 error on a return we've already sent in a check. It will never be resolved while we still can remember what it was. Probably the same for yours.

Even before the IRS turned into a post inauguration shit show, my amended return took almost 15 months. Oct ‘23 to Dec ‘24; so hang in there

Yikes - 15 months!

I filed mine in August 2023, via TurboTax for the amendment, and had a check in about 4 to 6 weeks.

Was your paper filing? OP, is yours paper filing?

My accountant filed, I think electronically.

We need a simplified tax code ASAP. Even the IRS doesn’t know the rules now, and most of it is based on interpretation which is a terrible way to handle taxes. Combine that with cutting funding to the department and this situation becomes untenable fast.

I just filed paper late in Jan or Feb 2025. Received my refund yesterday.

Everyone at the IRS has been at their homes since the first month of covid as are many other Federal Employees. The lack of any one forcing them back to work has been amazingly foolish up til recently. I hear people grumbling that there going to quit now that their dog walking regimen and pickle ball schedule are being interrupted by work.

During the Pandemic (2020-2022):

• The IRS significantly increased telework to maintain operations during the pandemic.
• In 2020, the IRS more than doubled the number of teleworking employees.
• By the end of September 2020, nearly 60,700 IRS employees reported spending at least some time teleworking.

Post-Pandemic (2023-Present):

• In February 2024, the GAO estimated that 9% of IRS employees were fully remote and about 49% were frequent teleworkers.
• However, recent return-to-office mandates have shifted the trend.
• In March 2025, the IRS set a return-to-office deadline, requiring most employees within 50 miles of an office to work in-person.
• Exceptions were made for certain situations like reasonable accommodations or specific agreements.

At least they pay 8% interest on the work they fail to get done in a timely manner
