Rivian Network Most Expensive....

We have 15 months left of free RAN left in our R1S - so it's hard to beat that price. I do wonder how many others are in the same boat we are, forcing a higher price for those not riding the referral credit train.

Obviously my favorite EV for long trips, my beloved Tesla Model S Raven received free Tesla supercharger electricity not for one, two, three years but FOR LIFE.

I ain't forcing jack on nobody. Not my decision, not my concern. A great perk that came with the car. Quite glad to take it.

I could use some very appropriate choice words to describe the exact reasons for such high prices at DCFCs; free electricity for some however many ain't one of them.

Sure, it [price] does depend on location, but by and large, Tesla electricity is cheaper than what the other lesser pickpocket networks want.

Yes, it varies by area. Have a trip to Seattle coming up. Tesla SC only for me. $0.32/kWh in North Bend, WA, $0.51/kWh in Quincy, WA, both without membership fee. A no-brainer which one I will use.

For years, the story has been that the Tesla charger network is not-for-profit. Whether true or not, my experience has shown that Tesla charges you less than the others outfits.

I was calculating my Trip to Chicago from DC. I charged at home to 100%, it was a trip of over 700 miles. I calculated the Mileage using $3.50 /gal and 700 Miles and all the Cost I paid on the Road Charging,. It came out to be 10.8 MPG. I even used the RIVIAN NW when I could , and I used TESLA alot because they were cheaper that SHELL, EVGO.

Hmm. I have charged my R1S at Tesla chargers using Tesla app always. Tesla charged my cc directly each time, no Rivian middle man ever involvef; Tesla only all the way.

I was making the point as to why it does not work with plug and charge. When you use the Tesla app, Tesla has your CC info. When you use P&C, Rivian is not passing your CC info (nor your name) to Tesla, due to privacy concerns.

Our first EV road trip was in 2017 in a Chevy Bolt. DCFC meant 24 kW about half the time -- if you could find a working charger in the first place. Ain't it grand now we can worry about the price?

That said I wish there was an easy way to see the prices at a location. You have to open each specific app to see the prices. If there are EA, RAN, and Tesla at a location I need to open the EA app, the Rivian app, and the Tesla app to see what the price is before deciding where to charge. I still call this a 'happy problem' because now it isn't 'can I get a charge' but 'how much cheaper is it to charge at non RAN vs RAN?'

We drive between San Diego and Prescott a lot. A favorite charge stop is Quartzsite. I've done the price comparison and Tesla is cheaper even without a membership. I guess those still using the RAN are maybe using their free charging credits. In Quartzsite there are only 4 EA chargers and you have a 50% chance all 4 are working. You have a 50% chance of waiting in line for a charger too. We've waited up to 2 hours just to get a charger (in our Bolt before we had an NACS adapter) Tesla has 120 superchargers with 84 being NACS. I've never seen more than 20 of the NACS in use at the same time. RAN has 6. The most I've seen even back in the day when it was 36 cents was 3 charging at the same time.

EA: $0.56/kWh -- with membership $0.42
Tesla: $0.56/kWh -- with membership: $0.41
RAN: $0.61/kWh --Rivian only, not open to other EVs.

Back when we first got our Rivian this RAN was $0.36/kWh.
