I have a 2023 R1S QM AT and when I went for the 7,500 mile service, they didn't rotate tires because they said my tire wear didn't warrant it.

Rivian will become my daily in 10 days when my Bolt EUV lease expires so I should start adding miles a little quicker. I'll see how long these tires last once that happens.

Couldn't they do a software upgrade to automate that engagement in conserve. Not a hardware or software engineer, but would figure the Rivian controls when to turn motors on and off.

I rarely ever use conserve anymoe as Tesla has made range issues almost a non-issue. Run it in all purpose and tires are wearing pretty evenly.

The clutch style on the Bosch motors doesn't allow for this type of use. Just stick to conserve for highway/long trips and stay out of lowest height. Conserve mode is still beneficial when used correctly on G1 quads.

It sounds like the disconnect clutch is pretty much either on or off, with little modulation in between; compared to gen2. So, for instance, a Tri could be in conserve, but if launched hard, the rear could be on and then ease off to minimize slip at the front. Where as in gen1, the front tires are doing all the work under such conditions as weight is transferred to the back on launch—front tire slip. Put your gen1 quad in conserve and launch hard. You'll hear it.

So, if you've got a gen1, understanding how it all works (or doesn't work) and being cognizant of your throttle input, it's possible to manage your tire wear. Driving style is why some people can drive exclusively in conserve and not experience premature tire wear.

My Gen1 QM needed tires at 20k miles. I wouldn't call that eating tires.
Depends on driving habits. Your personal experience isn’t universal. Not only driving habits are different, so are the various factory tire options.

100% agree just sharing the information. I had an Audi Q3 that needed tires at 7500 miles, that is eating tires and it was not a ripper of an engine either.

My launch edition quad made it to 32k miles before the tires needed replaced so this story makes no sense to me.
And which factory tires were they? Some people roasted their Verde AS (21") by 12k.

Correction- eats the garbage factory tires.

25k on my Nokian Outpost AT and 60% remaining per the helpful gauge molded into the tires.

TLDR: Relates to amount of control over engagement and disengagement of the Bosch motors at the rear. With Gen 2 in-house motors, there is more control. Thus, allowing them to blend in/out power delivery between the two axles better, to limit tire slip/wear.
It's a nonsense claim. The tire wear is mostly dependent on individual driving habits. My 2023 R1T Quad has the 20AT tires. The OEM tires lasted until 35K miles with rotations at 10K mile intervals. I could have held out until 40k without compromising safety. That's hardly "devouring tires".

I’m running OEM Pirellis on my ‘23 Gen1 quad with 22 inch Sport wheels. Currently on original tires after 23k miles. Had them rotated by Rivian at 20k with no issues. Hardly eating tires

IDK about my tires lasting longer on the tri, I got 13K on it and just had them rotated. The Rivian tech said I'm at 5/32-6/32 so I won't get too many more miles out of this set.
