Also wanted to add I got a good tidbit of insider information from the Rivian employee. Apparently true eyes off self driving is coming sometime in August (gen 2 of course), the red canyon and limestone are gone for good as far as they are aware, and potentially the ocean coast driftwood ascend interior might be on the chopping block as well given it doesn't sell too much. They also said that they are really trying to move vehicles, so definitely talk to someone to see all the incentives they can throw at you for a trade in. I'll add to this post if anything else comes back to me, but the eyes off self driving was an interesting tidbit to know since it seems like it should be coming right around the corner.
So will there be more colors than the 2 that is currently offered for the quad? If so then, I don't mind waiting for the incentives and more color options

Yeah doesn't sound like the quad is getting the hype and attention they were expecting. I was the only test drive for the day, at 6pm, and the first one in the area, on the second day that they opened up test drives for the quad...wouldn't be surprised if incentives and more color options started appearing sooner rather than later.

A tri with the slate interior is @ 10 k less with the same accessories as the new quad.
It depends. If you choose a quad with the regular dark sport wheels and green/dark decor, you're arguably "getting less" for it because you're opting out of otherwise paid upgrades.

The Storm Blue + Slate Sky is $6000 extra from stock, the AT wheels/tires and underbody armor and spare are $5k, I don't remember what else is an upsell, like the $400 camp speaker? And I'm sure the summer super sport staggered wheels/tires are going to be a pretty penny more, too.

If you opt out of these on the launch edition, you are absolutely getting $10k less than if you want it fully loaded, since the price is the same either way.

Great write up - thank you.

I'm just not sure how much appetite there is out there for a $120K+ crazy fast SUV/truck. I know how that sounds and plenty will say that this is what they've been waiting for all along. It's great these cars exist, but rather like the Model X/S Plaids, it's a bit of a niche market.

I love my LE Quad and at $73k it was a steal, but $ for $, surely a dual or tri is enough?? I'm actually going to trade mine for a hi-spec R2 when the time comes.

I'd say the tri is more than plenty. The quad is such a head scratcher because they added an extra motor for a 0.3-0.4s faster 0-60 and a few features most people won't use. Given how big and boxy the Rivian is, I think the tri is its peak performance and the new quad was a push for a full 10/10 limits with the tri still being 9/10. It seems like the R1 platform can't go any faster because of physics. Obviously if money ain't a problem, a 22 inch bronze wheel quad gets more power on paper and the same range as the tri, so for that person it would make sense. Me personally, I'd pocket the $15k+ extra and just buy a tri. Or even more of a bargain, get a used gen 1 quad which are going for $70kish and with the extra money buy many of the used sports cars out there that can scratch the itch. The LE Quad is still an amazing vehicle for sure.

According to the a sales rep with whom I've been speaking, other color combos will be available by the end of the month but Launch Editions will only be in the current 2 color combos.

Thanks for the thoughts on your test drive. Yeah, I agree with what you said. Doesn’t seem to be a natural draw to the quad max for most people.

I was hoping it would have some meaningful hardware beyond the quad motors.

Same. At $126k+T&F, I'd expect a lot more than more horsepower and a party trick. Don't get me wrong, I still think it's an amazing vehicle and an impressive engineering accomplishment, but so is the rest of the lineup. They should have found a way to really differentiate the tri and the quad. Missed opportunity to do an R1X with the new quad setup.

Totally. I think a super street version would possibly sell better, but Rivian is also trying not to put more cost into the R1 series in order to maximize profit. I think this is the real reason why the quad doesn't really seem all that special.

Indeed. I'm sure its all hands on deck for R2. It can't come to market soon enough. Really am hoping that the R1 vehicles don't get left behind the same way that the Model S and X have for Tesla.

My Gen 1 Quad is already more power than anyone really needs, and I really love my Limestone & Ocean Coast combo...

I hope not, I don't have any plan to switch from Rivian, but the R1S is the size I need for traveling. The only two things I would even consider as replacements are the Cadillac Vistiq and the Lucid Gravity, although I don't like the exterior styling of the Gravity that much, and I'm more concerned with Lucid as a company.

I camped on the G2 Quad for months, but with very little guidance as to when it might be released and with upcoming road trips coming up, I couldn't wait any longer. I ended up getting the '25 R1S Tri in May.

Maybe this whole "We'll let you know when we're launching" thing isn't such a great way to drive sales.

Quad looks amazing.
I bought a California dune tri-motor about three months ago and was fearful I may have regrets but I don’t so it worked for me. You can’t go wrong either way especially if the extra money is not an issue for you.

I’m with you except I also like the Cadillac IQ.
