Working out final terms and options as we speak for August 25 delivery. . R1T seems so unique and different but these threads are worrisome. Many issues right from the start and SC being unresponsive or dismissing issues as minor or cosmetic……..
I’m down for being patient and working out some bugs but don’t want a lemon. First EV.

You should definitely go into the purchase with the understanding that Rivian still has a ton of room for improvement (and expansion) when it comes to service. That being said, not everyone has had the doomsday experiences you find here. The majority of Rivian owners are happy with their vehicles.

That doesn’t mean the folks struggling with issues aren’t telling the truth. It just means forums are a place to vent. Personally, I just crossed the 2 yr mark with my 2023 R1T Quad and I could not have asked for a better truck. I did have to take in last year because of an issue with the HV battery, but they replaced it quickly and professionally and gave me a loaner while they worked on it For 6 days. That is my only service appointment other than the 7500 and 22k mile maintenance.

My experience is just a data point - no different than those who are less happy.

You’re not getting a lemon; you’re getting an incredible truck that continues to impress me and thousands of other owners. Enjoy the adventure!

edit...just ran in the garage and knocked on the wood trim....

The service centers aren't dismissing legitimate issues; they work towards them and try to get them fixed. Another thing to keep in mind is that all the new people with low post counts come here to air their grievances. There is always a high concentration of negative feedback on any forum due to this fact.

I've had two different Rivians and have been a Rivian owner since '22. The only vehicle better than my Gen 1 quad was the Gen 2 tri I currently own. My Rivian is one of my favorite possessions. I enjoy driving my car every time I get behind the wheel.

Thanks very much for the helpful responses. Exactly the experience I am looking for. Def know forums can be for venting and some exaggeration. Rivian and Land Rover have poor JD Power scores but high customer satisfaction. I guess both things can be true.
found some interesting checklists for delivery walk around so that’s helpful here.

I hope you have better luck than I’ve had.

5 months of ownership, on my 4th service center visit, 25 official days in service, nothing but issues.

I spoke to a fellow Gen2 Tri owner when I dropped off mine a few days ago, he’s got two Rivians. R1T which has a bad rear motor, and a G2 S, which he says he’s had for 18 months without issue.

YMMV

From what I’ve gathered you either get a good one or a bad one. Not alot of play in the middle it seems

That’s the attitude you need. I honestly think most are just fine. The ones with issues are the squeaky wheels you hear about - and they have legitimate concerns. You just don’t hear as much from the folks who are trouble free. If you do have issues, they’ll most likely be fixed under warranty.

My 2 cents - I have 3 Gen 1’s, an R1T and two R1S’s.

I love my 2022 R1T, but it’s had some major issues fixed under warranty - and I’m about to trade it in for a Gen 2 Quad Max. The high voltage battery was replaced a month after delivery. The 12V was replaced twice under warranty. The central gateway module was also replaced twice under warranty. Most of those issues were in year 1. The car has been quite reliable ever since.

My 2023 R1S’s have needed very little warranty work. One had some panel alignment adjustments and the 12V replaced under warranty. That’s it. The other had the glass roof replaced a month after delivery after I noticed a crack in it driving home from delivery. However, it underwent collision repair (driver error) on the Big Island of Hawaii and that was a major and lengthy pain in the ass. That said I’ve been happily driving it around island all week. It’s fully repaired and kicking ass again.

Congratulations! Hope you love it and have a great experience.

If you need a referral code, pretty sure everyone who responded has theirs listed in their signature.

Join the local Rivian club, if you have one. Ask loads of questions. Get more test drives. Talk to the SC guys. Hang out here. Make up your own mind. I've purchased a few cars that my friends advised against and they were great cars.

My '23 R1S has had one "major" issue with the 12v and the SC was great. This is my first EV and it's been great. I would say the quality has been at or better than most established manufacturers. All the best!

If there is a significant problem at delivery, DON'T TAKE DELIVERY.

Otherwise go into owning a Rivian with you eyes open and you may be fine.

I have a 2023 Launch Edition R1S which has been reliable since delivery and now has ~33,000 miles. I don't take it easy on the car and drive it like I use to drive my sports sedan. It's never left me stranded or caused any issues for my family.

Any warranty work done on the vehicle was proactive work like replacing the 12v under warranty or improvement like AC noise or Dampeners which were all covered under warranty / planned ahead of time. Each time Rivian provided a loaner that was a Jeep Wagoneer or Ford Expedition.

I would 100% buy another Rivian and plan to buy the R2 when it comes out.

Rivian is my first EV as well. Picked up my Gen2 S almost a year ago. We love the vehicle, though my first 5 months the vehicle was in service 4 times. It took a long time to find the culprit (bad/bent connector pin somewhere in the wire harness that took forever to find and as a last resort after they replaced a bunch of components). But here's what I loved about that Rivian experience, they never gave up helping me find what was wrong (even when my wife started asking when we're going to give up). They always gave me a loaner, and we're always flexible with me for pickup and drop off (I have a 2 hour commute to the SC one way so that was the hardest part for me). Love the vehicle.

The vehicles are great when they're running as designed - there's not another car on the market that I even want right now. Gen1 R1S was hassle-free and had no problems for 2 years. I always go in for the recommended service interval inspections (at my cost) and Rivian usually pre-emptively fixes something each time (12v battery, home charger recall, some other minor items).

The upgrade from Gen1 to Gen2 last May has been the worst car purchase experience I've ever had, but the vehicle has run flawlessly for 5,000 miles after spending the first 3 weeks I owned it in the shop.

I'll withhold the rest of my comments, as I've vented plenty on here - but basically, there is a bit of luck involved in whether you get a good one or one with problems right out of the gate. Also expect the purchase process to be choppy - coordination between the teams within Rivian can be out of sync at times.

I would agree here. They may work slowly, but I've never felt that any vehicle issues that I brought to Rivian's attention were dismissed.
