I use a hitch carrier, can't decide whether to change over to a pad. Have you tried both by any chance? Bikes would be e-MTB, one or two.
I haven't used a hitch carrier on the Rivian, but the bike pad is SUPER convenient. I keep mine in the gear tunnel, and it takes me less than 45 seconds to pull it out and install, start to finish. When I'm done it's even faster to remove and store away.

But if you're using e-bikes, I suspect they're 60+lb each? The bike pad requires that you lift each bike over your head with the tailgate up, and I would NOT want to do that regularly with something so heavy. So you might have the best solution already.

They are high end carbon bikes, 51 and 52 pounds. If I pop the battery out, they lose about 8 pounds. I've also seen people load them by putting them in the truck, having a person stabilize them, and push the tailgate up under them. This was in full size trucks. I guess I need to test this with a moving blanket. I hate the carrier for so many reasons, it was just left over from hauling them with a Tesla 3.

One of these is not like the others. Can you find the misfit?
  • cup holders
  • mag safe phone charger
  • comma ai
  • ipad mount
  • running boards
Jokes aside, the roll of paper towels that fits perfectly in the lower tray and the dog hammock that keeps the back seat clean are my must-have accessories. I'm a simple man, with a dog.

+1 GOAT sliders. They're bulletproof.
They are. And even a benefit if you decide to do tire rotations on your own. You can lift the entire side to do two tires at once. They also look fantastic and make a great step.

If you can hold the bike by the front fork in one hand, and the seat tube in the other, and deadlift it to about head height, the bike pad should be a viable option.

Home charger. Why are all of you guys using DC charging as your main infrastructure? ;)
Have had a home charger since 2011 to keep the original LEAF rolling.
Not really a Rivian accessory so to speak.

I have both a tailgate pad and a hitch rack. The pad is an inexpensive one I bought off eBay, not the fancy Rivian pad. It is the most convenient and gets the most use. Definitely on my list of ‘can’t live without’ accessories. I do have a small dimple on the tailgate from the fork crown, likely the result of too much speed over a speed bump. The extra weight of an eMTB would be more likely to cause this problem than my self-powered ride.

The hitch rack is a Yakima Hold Up left over from a prior vehicle. It gets used for longer trips with multiple bikes and gear. Especially if I want to secure luggage in the bed with the tonneau installed. It addition to being a hassle to install and remove it sits too high for the tailgate to open. I bought a hitch drop adapter to address this and, predictably, forgot to use it the last time I had the rack installed. 🤷‍♂️
