I love love love my truck, but I’ve come to realize the things I don’t need. The big three for my next truck are no air suspension, glass roof (really hate), and having real door handles.

Definitely, 2 1/2 years, 10k miles, 2000 mile road trip on route 1 and 101(awesome), minor hydraulic leak only issue. Most capable vehicle I have ever owned. LOVE it!

I would not buy a new R1 again as much as I have enjoyed both the R1S launch & later the R1T Quad the new cost in Canada is pretty much double($170-185k) what I paid.
Costly insurance & likely long term maintenance of suspension, half shafts etc is somewhat prohibitive once warranty is up.
The 16k in fuel savings has been great.

Its less fun but I would go with a Chevy/GMC EV for less $ and more range.
The EV truck makers need to shorten up the hood/frunk for a longer box.
The CT is just too big & ugly with too small a battery for a truck.
Hopefully Ford comes out with this.

No, there are too many problems and it doesn't look like it will end. I'm not going to like having to pay after the warranty expires. I'm thinking of selling while I still can. I feel disappointed. The latest thing is the cruise control. Who knows what that would cost to fix.

2" more rear passenger space (R1T specific) This is a bit more of a redesign of the body in general, but even if the entire truck needs to grow by 2" to make it happen, I think there are enough "Tallies" that would appreciate a little more legroom when hauling more than 2 people. It would also make getting in and out of the rear easier overall. I know the constraints are tonneau, gear tunnel, and bed length, which is why I think the entire truck would need the extra length.
Just move the cab forward 2-8", as much as I love the frunk I would prefer a longer box & more 2nd row legroom wouldn't hurt either.
There is no need for such a long hood on an EV.
I wouldn't want a longer truck.

Im out on Rivian. My R1S Gen2 is a cool tech toy but after the initial shine wore off I’ve come to realize it isn’t a very good car for the price. Just a lot of small (and some big) things poorly executed - wouldn’t be an issue for a $65K car but at near $100K it’s an issue.

This is the only car I’ve ever owned where I’ve even had to think about the A/C performance (my kids sweat in the 3rd row on an 85 degree day), I’ve had more random alerts/warning lights in 12 months of ownership than all my other cars combined, the folding mechanisms for the 2nd/3rd row are terribly thought out, ride quality is not great, PAAK is buggy, responsiveness coming out of sleep cycle is abysmal and ever OTA update causes random software bugs.

Compounding it all - it’s a 3 month wait for a service appointment

YES!
I love the car/truck. 13 months and 10K miles.
One mechanical issue (leaking hydraulic fluid) repaired by SC along with two recalls (lights). 12V battery replacement done proactively with new brackets by mobile tech.

No way. Buggy software. Paak is a joke. Constant hard reboots to make the truck usable. Not enough service centers and long wait times.

No, I will not. Lack of Captain's chairs being the reason.

First post, sorry for the doozy question. I'm sure I'll get some passionate responses.

Owned a Model S since 2014 and while it's been incredibly reliable even at 154,000 miles the time is coming to replace it. I love EV's, my experience despite crazy Elon mode has been mostly positive. Definitely more positive than my ICE cars in the past. So, I'm looking at Rivian as an option.

I'm used to the fact that EV's are still new technology, getting service can be a challenge (In VA, the auto dealers association continues to fight the direct sales /service model in the courts but there's a Rivian SC 15 minutes from my house), and I know all about how long it takes to charge. I've taken my family from VA to Disney twice, done Atlanta a few times, etc.

My wife swears she'd never see me in a pickup truck, but I'm keeping options open so the car may be R1T or R1S. I'm still sorting that out.

Won't go back to Tesla and Lucid seems like a risky option considering it's almost 60% owned by the Saudi PIF. Curious about Scout, too.

For people who own a Rivian, would you buy your car again?
If yes, what (if any) changes would you make?
If no, why?
Absolutely, without a doubt. I bought R1T in 2022 and love it. Now my wife is anxiously waiting for her R2.

I like my 2023 gen 1 R1T. A lot. Paid cash for it and will probably drive it until it won't go any more... over 30k miles so far. ....but I think if I were in the market for a new truck right now, I'd try a Cybertruck. I'm still not in love with the way they look - they're out there man.. but a few things they have that RIVN does not: V2H charging capability (Rivian promised, but will never deliver) and full self-driving auto-pilot (will never be possible in Rivian gen1 and still not available in gen2)... and another thing I assume Tesla does not have as much of a problem with that the rivvy does: WIND NOISE.
